    National Powersports dropping dealer brands

Probably prefer to set their own high used market prices rather than being tied down by “msrp”.

So much for “no dealer fees”.

I've been reading about how the manufacturers are making outrageous demands to dealers about how they need to model their business. X amount of square footage to each model, full remodels to the showroom, squeezing out the little guys to give bigger dealerships there customer area etc. With the way the economy is going with bike sales it's probably a smart move to dump the manufacturers and go it alone. Note the rapid rise of cfmoto. 10 to 1 days national starts selling them before the end of the year. It's an easier business model to deal with.

yes, I have heard this first hand from the dealer I know personally. At one of his stores he added square footage by putting some metal carports out back and calling it "outdoor showroom" Polaris has outrageous requirements to sell Slingshots

I have bought two bikes from them. Very easy to deal with. The 22 street glide ST I bought in spring was easily 4 to 5 grand cheaper than any Harley dealer
I dealt with. Manchester was pissed when I told then the price I got at NPS. Not surprised they are dumping franchises they probably sell allot more used bikes and ship world wide.

Does the existing new inventory get sold off at a discount, or moved to other dealers?

Pretty sure the dealer shows up with a truck and takes it all back.

Had my Triumph serviced at the dealer in Salem, MA. They were right near the train station so I could ride out to get the bike. The building wasn't pretty but he had a very full line of bikes in stock.

He was forced to sell out to Cycles 128. My first experience with Cycles 128 was back in the 2000's when I was interested in a V-Strom. "Do you you have a V-Strom in stock?"

"No. We don't have any on order and neither do our other dealerships."

Cool. Bought one at the dealer in Manchester NH.

I will travel across the country to buy a bike before the Cycles 128 group will get my money.

This is not true in every case.
Some dealers have special agreements with a manufacturer where a certain amount of the inventory is paid for and a remaining amount of inventory is supplied with sales incentives attached, for one example.

I can describe 3 other scenarios where the inventory is not necessarily purchased outright by a dealer, most of it relating to sales incentives and the relationship a dealer has with a manufacturer

Hopefully you don't feel I'm giving you shit as I was simply replying to what seems like a blanket statement of "dealers own the bikes in their floor plan".
