Heading up to Mt Washington tomorrow. I was up there about 8 weeks ago and took 153 from Wakefield up to Conway and many miles of the road up through Effinghgam was pretty tore up by those road road resurface machines. It made for a real crappy ride with lots of black sand and tar that got all over the bike. It looked like they were prepping to re-pave, or maybe just do a quick surface. Does anyone know what kind of shape the road is in now.
TIA,
Bill

Went for the ride and answered my own question. Just to let everyone else know, 153 for a couple miles either side of Poor Peoples Pub is freshly paved. The next 15 miles north past Province Lake to is the same as it has been (a little bumpy, but still fun). As you get close to Effingham, the road has been gone over with one of those hot resurfacing machines in various places all the way to Rt 25. I hate when they do that. They should either repave or leave it alone. The color and surface texture changes and makes for some unnerving moments.
We did get to the Mt Washington Auto Road. It was a perfect day for a ride up. Crystal clear, 50 degrees at the top with almost no wind. Unfortunately, they would not allow motorcycles up because they had sanded the road over the weekend after some light snow and said it was unsafe for motorcycles. I was pretty pissed. Been riding dirt bikes most of my life, I think I could handle a little sand. Portions of the road are dirt anyways. I just don't get it. Must be due to liability...damn lawyers.![]()

Thanks for the heads up. Lakes region has sucked road wise due to "halfass wannabe" paving methods. I quess our lack of taxes shines through sometimes. I gotta get a VT fix.
