After riding a 12, you will not like sitting on the 1000's all day. Your best bet is to fix the 12 and not crash it in the future. If you really want to swap bikes and stay in the sporty end of the market, you should be able to find decent deals on used 14s, Busas, and Blackbirds; all of which would be more similar to the 12 than the 1K bikes.

i would not like to sit on any bike all day in one position. if i can't swing from side to side like a monkey from time to time, i'd stay off and pose.
"fuckit!"
04-05 ZX10R is not the easiest bike to work on IMO. I had a 05 zx6r, that was easier to change air filter, plugs and stuff. Like Kham said, in order to put a PC3 you have to take fuel tank off, airbox (PITA). To change spark plugs- same thing, plus a couple brackets ( upper engine mounts?) A little time consuming, but I don't mind working on my bike. When you do it 2nd time, everything goes much faster especially with service manual![]()
But the bike is badass, evil, and all other words used here on this thread to describe is true. That's why I bought it![]()

a bitch to me is having to move the retarded air box/frame to get to the engine. I just hear that gsxr's are much easier to work on.
My FZ1 is what you should be looking at...easy maintainence all around, huge power, very comfortable, good insurance rates, well set up with the mods it does have, 220 mile cruising range on 87...
....but you know what they say....you can lead a horse to the water but you can't make him drink the Kool-aid...![]()

I voted you get the gixxah![]()
so go test ride them and not just those two and see which one you REALLY like. Hell, if I want something bad enough I can convince myself its the "right" choice. It's not until 2-3 months later you realize you could have had alot more bike or more comfort, or more of what you really wanted just by looking around. OH YEAH, we talked about this two weeks ago....
come on over I will show you how easy it is to work on some bikes
Even mark looked at my kawasaki when I needed to adjust the valves, and we looked at it at as many different angles as possible and couldn't find a way to do it in a reasonable amount of time. I know he said with suzuki's it was a piece of cake.
how often ya gotta do a damn valve job?
Get a bike you like & ride the thing.![]()

Yea...whenever I go to buy a bike I def. check to see if its going to be easier to work on than another brand...I mean, its not like I'm going to be riding it...shit, why not just buy a Ducati and then you can adjust valves with a hard-on more often![]()

It's a deciding factor if both bikes compare which I believe they do, I have sat on both and they felt the same but haven't ridden both yet, after I do and if they still feel the same the only 2 things left are price and which will cause me less frustration as far as maintenance goes.
a 10R is no harder to work on than a GSX-R...erm sorry, i ment gixxa.
the 12R is a special kind of headache because of the monowhatever they call it frame.
Mike, I'd go with the 06 kawi 10. You're a tall mother fucker and for comforts sake I think that would best suit your needs in all around comfort and performance.
Good luck and let me know when you get it on the road and we'll hit some twisties...

Do you have the factory shop manual for the 12R? It details how to do a valve check and adjustment. It's not as bad as you think.

Get a Honda. You dont have to worry about it being easy to work on. You wont have to. Damn 3 crashes in 2 years? Glad you are still in one piece.
