He probably put more miles on it during his ride home from the dealership than I put on all season.

I only got 25 miles on it, never left realership till 4:15 and it was spitting sleet , finance manager fucked up and had paperwork written up for a DL650 they had in stock rather than the DL1000 that I got (they had to order it from suzuki warehouse)

haven' t had a chance to ride it in daylight yet

the headlight is awesome, as bright as the 9" lamp on my XV920R and is seriously well balnced at low speed, I can creep along much slower than the SV and not even think about keeping it upright

as sooon as it stops raining, I'm going to get out on it and learn about mirror adjustments etc, see what I have to get for immediate mods like heated grips, possibly a new windhield mount, where to mount my scottoiler etc.

Sean - make sure the clutch basket recall was done on your 2002. It was a problem for the first year.

And these guys know everything about Stroms...

75 miles so far, first 25 or so were friday on the way home from picking it up, it was spitting sleet so I didn't do any extra riding

first observation : headlamp is awesome, impressive as the 9" lamp on my 920r

got to ride on a little dirt today betewwn my house & stoneman's Ergonimics very similar to my 920r, love the, 19" front hoop, balance at low speed is unbelievable.

Bridgestone Trailwing tires are uninspiring, no better than the Azaro STs on the SV were on gravel, can't even compare with the Pirelli MT60R-corsas

Should I go with HotGrips (made in NH) or Oxford (made overseas) heated grips ?

have to look at my windscreen adjustment, but it's likely I will be getting an aftermarket mount & screen, helmet buffetts severely above 80mph, so much so that my head is vibrating and affects my vision

I've read about it causing wear and possible bearing failure but it does not seem to be consistent. It is literally a possible mis-alignment of 3-5mm? I'll check mine when I put new tires on shortly.

Other issues would be EFI surging but they say 2006 and up have it fixed now. It was bad on older models.

The other issue would be that its just geared too tall - 16T front sprocket seems to be the way to go.

So far, I've added the Suzuki centertand, TAG Metals ATV aluminum bars for a taller, pullback bar and the Givi. The Suzuki heated grip kit will be in this week. This is supposed to be an easy plug in since the bike is wired for it.

The stock Trail Wings are mediocre at best. I plan to mount Michelin Anakees shortly.

Givi crash bars, aluminum skid plate and Fenda Extenda for protection. I also added a RAM mount that bolts to the master cylinder for my Garmin and will put in a Powerlet plug to run it.

I spent many a night researching my Strom purchase. It was this bike, the 650 Strom or a KLR. The 1000 was by far the best bang for the buck. And with huge aftermarket and rider support it was a no brainer for a do-all type ride.

    MY brother got

Aluminum panniers his looks, up armored...

He went off on the high gearing. Dropped to 14 front and went up a few in the back. I had the thought that a wide ratio not so bad. Use top gear for highway cruising then below for anything else... its not like its a 3 speed. Longer life better gas mileage then down to the lower gears for any other riding.

Of course now his speedo an odo are off a great deal and will need a ratio box

One blurb I read was that the EPA has a drive by sound test in high gear and that is responsible for some final ratios

My brother has 10 street bikes and the Strom is now his favorite

    Happy good luck to you

My GPS takes care of the speed with no healer needed.
That Zumo really rocks and I highly recommend it.
Several trip functions, mileage based gas gauge, take that for
what it is worth, my bike and driving style is pretty consistent.

It also confirmed that the SV speedo is exactly 10% off.

I ordered suzuki heated grips today, pricey even at my discount, but plug n play, no fussing with throttle tube to take the "suzuki" ribs off and a tank bra

looking at a jell seat, said to be sculptured lower, but by how much, who knows

does anyone have one that I can try?

or the touring seat that is 20mm lower

stock seat has me right at tippy toes, but I don't know if I need a lower seat or a narrower one

Dave, centerstand, crashbars are common add ons,

I guess I ask the question, why

I never use the centersand on my 920,

maybe the crashbars aren't really crashbars as I am thinking, protecting radiator & oil cooler with smaller guards would be more in my consideration
