Thanks for putting in some good imput about the bikes without being idiots about it! Some people are like "it's the fastest thing out everything else sucks, and I'll smoke you anyday" it's a pain in the ass, and they usually can't ride worth 2 cents anyway. I didn't realize how reliable the Busa's were, I know my friends have had problems with their GSXR's, guess I figured they'd be the same. I know my bike has been bulletproof, theres nothing better than knowing you can ride anyday without a problem. I have a friend with a Busa, i wanted to swap for a few miles last year, but I was afraid he'd crash my 12! I was a bit scared when I saw him on the road! Anyway, all you Busa owners, they repaved 95 north for the summer!!
bbhzx12 I've got a lot of love for the 12R. They are so close to each other that it's going to come down to rider every time.
As far as being reliable, they are great. Like I said I've got 17000 miles on mine and it's not a stock bike.
Mods:
Brock Hindle GenIII exhaust, Webb Cams, Pair Valve mod, short stacks, BMC race filter, small air box mod, TRE (de-restricted), Power Commander 3r and a custom map. All this and I've had 0 problems(knocking on wood as I type) except for a dead battery after 1 year.
I wish I could have two bikes, a bone stock Busa for longer relaxing trips and a GSXR750 for the fast short rides.

Torque. I love the torque it has, mine is running about 80ft/lbs at 3000RPMs and there is just something about having that much power that early.

Mods. You can mod the shit out of a Busa, just like any other bike, but it's just easier. For $4000 you can add a turbo kit to the bike and not have to change one thing inside the motor (300RWHP). There is a huge aftermarket parts availability so finding used parts is also very simple.
Low state of tune. For being such a monster motor it is a very calm power plant. You can run regular unleaded in it with no problems. Being in a low state of tune also makes big power gains easy once you start modding the bike (if this is the route you want to go).
Flexability. This has got to be one of the most flexible bikes on the planet. You can go to any extreme and it does fairly well to excellent. With the addition of soft lugage and some comfort parts it makes an excellent sport tourer. In stock form it is a great drag race bike and it only gets better from there. Top speed racing is a given. As much as people don't ever want to believe it the Busa can do well as a track bike on more of an open track, it handles very well for it's size.
Nothing pulls like a Busa except for a 12R. I've ridden the 04R1, CBR954, GSXR1000 and they all felt like turds compaired to the Busa until the revs get up there.

That is BY FAR the best looking busa color they came out with. I have always been a fan of the style too. Some didn't like the front end. I thought it looked exactly like a drag bike. Awesome bike. Love it.
I think that most of the people here that ride Busa's are serious about them and own them for a good reason - not just cause they are fast. Although I will agree that I was expecting something to go awry with this thread:DQuote:

Looks like you got some goodies in the Busa. My 12 was almost stock till this winter. I had done the 2000 speedo and Muzzy Bonneville box to ditch the gov. awhile ago, this winter I went nuts:
Hans monster intake, BMC's, Muzzy stacks, 04 forks and brakes, Muzzys damper, Carrozzeria wheels, Akro Evo full system, Yosh EMS, Hans hugger, and Dino seat hinge.
I think I'm going with Ohlins suspension next winter though I should probably just buy a track bike instead. I'd love to pick up a ZX-6RR to have some fun on. I don't think I'm going to do anything to the motor, maybe a little head work but I really don't need any more power. Like you said it all comes down to the rider, and I hardly ever use all the power I have now, once in awhile but not much. Although it is nice to have it! We'll have to get the big bore bikes out for a spin this summer, hit some twistys up in VT. or something, Americade maybe? Heard there is some nice riding out there!
don't waste your time going to Americade. all Hardly's and not much fun. Just make a trip to VT and enjoy 100 and 17....Quote:

What do you get for miles before reserve on a Busa?
How many miles to an oil change, tire change, what about chain life?
Always heard the tires & chains wore out quick on these bikes which would limit them as sport-tourers, but then I suppose it has a ton to do with how you ride the bike...

It is hard to argue against the big draw being top speed/HP bragging rights though!
I can't comment on the busa but i'm sure it is quite similar to the 12R in consumables.
Fuel milage: probably 35ish with highway city mix. I'm not sure what the corresponds to in range.
Oil Changes: Same as any other bike. Every 3000 is safe. More often if you ride hard.
Tires: Eats them up just like the 12. If you go 3000 on a rear, you are doing extremely well. The other thing is you need a sticky tire otherwise it is very easy to break the rear end loose. The stock Dunlop 208's on the 12 are not my first choice in tires.
Chain: After my first couple hunded miles, I had to adjust my chain. A week after I finished my break-in I had to readjust. I then put 5000 miles on before I had to adjust again. I still have tons of adjustment left.
For sport touring the chain is a non issue. For long distance riding, the tire certainly is. I know lots of people that have gone well over 7000 miles on a set of Avon tires on both the busa and 12r and they seem satisfied with the grip. Both the busa and 12r are very good sport tourers with a huge emphasis on sport.
Of course your results my vary depending on how you ride. I've managed to get 24mpg with the 12r one day when I was out having some fun!
