Good Day!
I have the opportunity to pick up a 1999 900ss , 6500 miles , low speed , cosmetic crash. It was driven home from the crash 3 years ago , in a heated garage since. Cheap $$ !
Problem: Keys have been lost!
I’m told 99 is first year for “chip” key ?
What do I need to do , replace ignition switch and ecu , tank cap and seat lock ?
Or is there a secret way to get a key cut?
Who here has the parts I’ll need?
Thanks to all !
Funny, I was literally just having a conversation with someone about this. Different Duc and different year but it led me to this webpage, might have the answers you're looking for?

The 1999 Ducati 750 SS does not have a chip key.
My 1999 didn't have a chip key. Too bad BCM is no longer, they were the people to ask about these things.
My 2000 doesn’t have a chip, so I don’t think yours will either. And they crash well, so don’t worry about a little spill. It’s a fun bike, there is NO question there.
Mine has been sitting in the corner of my shed for some years now, just can’t/won’t get rid of it. My goal is to someday restore it to its original beauty and have the motor freshened up. Someday...

"If you are lucky enough to search out the later 1000cc model, remember Ducati’s immobiliser needs a red ‘master’ key to reprogramme blank black keys, so ensure this is included in the sale."
Here is how I would go about it for the ignition key. I would find a 1999 blank key and then I would take the lock assembly out and take it apart and "cut" the key to fit. You could even rearrange the tumblers to fit any used key from a 1999. A locksmith would have a key cutter. Can't use a key copier. A key cutter isn't a lot of money. Tank and seat would be more difficult.
Thanks Guys ! Got a key made fits all 3 locks ignition , tank , seat ! Now onto much needed and overdue maintenance. Changed belts .... started it on spray ... it does run !!
