Question oil pressure no longer an issue?

So, these fella's with the skills to pay the bills don't seem to be "offing" their engines with any regularity.

What, if anything has changed with modern bikes that allows them to not starve the oil pump while stunting? Damage already done perhaps?

relocation of pump pick up to the rear of the case ( i presume)

i mean, whether you accelerating hard or doing a stand up, the oil moves to the rear of the case.. so logically it should be in the back anyway..

There is more to stunting than just wheelies

Not that I am a huge fan of stunting but there is some skill to it and it is more than just popping a wheelie.

Back in drag racing we put a flapper valve that stopped the oil from pooling in the rear

agreed on all fronts.. but stoppying doesn't load the engine at all.. it just idles. wheelies are a definite load though hence they require oil pressure.

a well made engine idling without load could run for quite some time without oil pressure

I've seen a lot of guys bumping off the limiter just for show when up on the front wheel.

Not just for show, though it is bad for the bike. The force of the rotating crank makes a difference in the stability of the bike, same with spinning wheels in wheelies and stoppies, same effects in racing. Higher RPM's and speeds add to the stability of the bike in some respects.

Most run a quart over and or use a stuntex oil pickup..relocates it to the back of the Pan...but most just run a stock motor. They take tons of abuse and still work fine. So when you hear poeple worring about the little things it minor compared to what the Stunters do..

Motor rebuilds and motor replacments are part of the equation ..They don't last forever with that abuse..

There's a sport in japan where they drain the oil and see how long they can run an engine at high RPM. Some lat a verrry long time. Like hours and hours. A few wheelies won't destroy a motor.

this is a good point. most people when taking the motorcycle license test go slow and use the brake while doing the cone weave. most of these people end up putting a foot down. the key to the cone weave is to use the clutch..not the brake..and keep your RPMs up by either revving the motor slightly or even just blipping it over and over. the spinning motor acts as a gyroscope and makes it easier to maneuver the cones
