Overseas tires

So I spent some time in New Zealand this winter and am thinking about immigrating. The roads are fucking amazing. Twisty as hell, high speed limits and practically no police enforcement (way up in Northland). The only problem for motorcycles is that they use a super-course aggregate. By all accounts it burns through tires fast. Does anyone have any experience with this shit? If so, do you have tire recommendations?... If we make the move, I'm thinking I might sell the 675 and buy a dual-sport so I can access the "metal" (read: 'dirt'/gravel') roads. I'm just curious about tire-life on this foreign pavement, and what people might recommend...

Bicycling is the other huge consideration. I think I should be able to train on the rough pavement, but I might have to bump up to 25mm tires...?

I am from Australia where the roads are built pretty similarly. I never had problems with tires though? Then again, Kiwis aint exactly a smart breed
