Thumbs up Picking up an 89' FZR400 Sunday...

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with these bikes??? I haven't found much info online yet... and not from lack of looking...

I know they were only imported to the US for 3 years... which is one of the things I like so much about it... It's actually going to be my wife's new bike... but I'm sure she'll let me play on it...

Anyway.. just looking for Specs, thoughts, opinions... things to look for... watch for... I dunno... anything you got...

    whatchu got!!!! ...

    Thanks in advance...

Here's a pic of a bike just like it... I don't have any pics of it yet... in case anyone didn't know what they look like...

    Carry on...

    Nancy's old bike?

If so, good for you! She took good care of it and it's race-prepped.

and for it's time it was one of the best handling bikes out there...So good that Yamaha decided to throw the 600 motor in the frame, and the saga continued....

Yup it is Nancy's bike... we worked out a deal... she wants to race an EX this year... so she's taking my wife's 96 EX... and we're taking that...

I rode it a bit last year at the track... cool little bike... I think it has a little more style and class to it then the EX....

As far as being race prepped... I'll be putting it back together for street use... get her all cleaned up...

Mark do you know where I can get the specs for it?? Any HP numbers etc??? I haven't found much online... just trying to get an idea where they run...

I plan to upgrade the suspension w/ elmulators and springs... and I think it has a fairly new works shock in it... better then stock anyway I'm sure...

Any info would be cool... tx!

Sorry Mike, but I don't have any #'s
For that time, I think it was probably good for at least 50+ HP, My RZ 350 made 53 stock), but it handled like a snake in a rat hole....
It was a while ago, and my brain is fading...I was gonna trade my RZ for one...But I couldn't part with that RZ. FYI I did sell the RZ 16 years later...

Well I guess as long as it is around where the EX was she'll be happy...

    Thanks Mark!

You ever been to www.FZRArchives.com ? I believe they have a FZR 400 page plus you can look in their classified section for parts.

Picking up an 89' FZR400 Sunday...

The 400 cc engine serves up about 55 rear wheel horsepower in California trim, with a smooth, manageable dose of respectable midrange thanks to the EXUP system.

So maybe a little higher with a Non-CA... not too bad...

    I like this comment...

the FZR400 was the bike that handling junkies, racers, and road test editors had been clamoring for, and the only one designed to go directly from the showroom floor to the racetrack (which most did, cleaning house on everything in sight).

    Thanks again Spence!
