    636-MIA

Was just wondering why they stopped making the 636 and went to just the zx6r? is it because of the bore and it couldn't be in 600cc race classes or what? What are your opinions on these bikes, i really like them.

That and it doesnt make a whole lot of financial sense to make 2 engines that accomplish the same thing.

The 636 was becoming a very old design... it was essentially the '98-'02 engine just bored out & fuel injected. Race rules stated 600 or below so they scrapped it & started anew.

too expensive to make a 636 for road use and a ZX-6RR for race use. now one design does both.

never road one but it seems like a good idea...if 600ccs are good, 636 must be better right?

Were increased insurance premiums affected as well due to the increased displacement?

Plus with the amount of tech that they put into the new motors that extra dissplacement was miniscule, so they claimed.

my 636 is the shit. It's also the only "modern" bike I've owned, but I've ridden a few others, and this is the best 600 (~ish) bike that I've ridden yet. put down 109.68hp @ the wheel bone stock after 2 years of loving abuse with nothing changed but fluids and tires.

Thanks guys, seth u reamber me pat from belmont? lol. I was thinking of a 05 636 all black awesome looking bikes. its going to be different than my zx6e /zzr but probably a noticable difference in power, mine will still wheelie off trodel in 2nd its got balls. and the stance will be more leaned over but overall they seam good.

aha ya hey man. Ya they are great bikes, not the best for being 'comfy' but owell. The black ones look mean, I love the lines on the 03-04 but the newer are sick too

    Re: 636-MIA

I had an 03 636 and now have an 07 zx6r. They are both great bikes in their own way. The 636 was much stronger from about 5-9k. Compared directly the new six seems weak until you hit 10k, where it really wakes up.

That said I like the new one a lot more, it is a much more refined motor. My 636 was never really a smooth runner and sounded like rocks bounced around in the crankcase. Ran great, sounded rough. Also, the new bike handles like it weighs 30 pounds lighter even though it isn't.

I miss the 636 and definately would have bought another - it was an awesome package. Like most have said I think Kawi wanted to save some dough and not produce two bikes that do the same thing.
