So I got a new 2003 R6 a couple weeks ago and absolutely love this bike. And these massive downpours are getting me all paranoid about leaving the bike uncovered - bike parking at work isn't covered, so after the pipe cooled I put a plastic baggie over the end to try and keep water out of the exhaust... am I being totally paranoid?
I don't worry about it. The exit of the exhaust is angled back which makes it difficult to fill with alot of water. Whatever gets in there is only going to be heated and blown out next time you ride the bike which shouldn't be much more than the 8 hours ago you parked it there. Imo it isn't much worse than condensation.

water is a byproduct of combustion. your exhaust has more moisture in it than you expect. keep the baggie, you don't want water to sit there, while running it gets evaporated, sitting could rust

Thanks, I just had mental images of my brand spankin new bike backfilled with water like some elaborate shiny bong...
Exhaust can probably has a little drain hole near the front on the bottom too. Mine stays out in the rain here at work all the time and I've only ruined 4 engines so far.

Hmmm, I wonder if I could use that hole to convert my bike into a water cannon - kinda monster garage-like. No wait, flame thrower...

Yikes, it figures that sombody'd actually do it... in the FAQ they mention that the flame throwing mod isn't street legal. Gee, really?
