    Pitbull vs Ninja!

On a ride last night following a good friend in his Toyota Celica along a twisty back road.
After we crossed an intersection (4 way stop) I had a rather large pitbull bolt from his property.

I was in 2nd gear and approaching a sharp left turn and this dog was beating me to the turn as he ran in front of the bike. He turned around and started to come at me from my left and was about 3 feet from my legs barking.
By this time I had come to a stop and another car in the opposite direction had stopped to watch the guy on the bike get eaten alive by this "nice" dog.

If I had a helmet cam this would have made for a great show when he took a bite out of my front tire and shook it enough to move the bars in my hands. At this point the owner who had been on his way to retrieve the dog caught it's attention and I blasted away.

The Michelin held up fine and a short while later you could see the scuffs in the front tire from it's teeth.
My friend and I discussed the whole episode for a few minutes. If the road had been wider and I was not about to make a sharp left it may have been uneventful.

I have been riding for 25 years and that was the first time I had been that close to a dog.

Great story...could have been way different!

    Michelin - 1
    PitBull - 0

Sounds like a poorly trained dog and a dumbass owner to me. Glad you didn't get hurt!

Thats what I was thinking the whole time.
This dog was looking rather focused on the task at hand and all I wanted to do was get the hell outta there.

Yes, it could have gone much worse.
What kind of gear does one wear for pitbulls gone wild?

funny my dogs had a similar issue but it is only in my driveway. and it wasn't that they did this to every car or bike ...... just certain people's tires / cars / people I didn't like. they are good loyal dogs! I miss them sometimes.

Eric glad the Michey took the bite instead of a leg.

    Haha.
I was on my sportster one time and had come to a stop at a stop sign. I hear barking, and start looking around. I had a ff helmet on and couldn't see a dog nearby. Next thing I know I feel my foot move. I look down and a little jack russel is going completely ape shit. Running in circles around my bike, nipping the tires and pegs and my boots. Didn't hurt anyand no cars were coming so I sat there looking aorund and just kinda put my hands up like WTF? I didn't want to leave because he would follow me into traffic or get caught under a tire. At that point the owner got the dogs attention by shouting, and I took off. I was laughing as I pulled away. Stupid dog.

If it had been his leg rather than the tire would you still be feeling 'sorry' for the poor dog?? Not to sound cruel but WTF? Someones dog comes at me I'm taking that personal. How about if next week its a little kid that gets the dogs attention?

    Re: Pitbull vs Ninja!

I kind of agree, you have an animal that is known for actually killing people. They should have that thing tied up and under control. Not running around after people and biting shit. NOT THE DOGS FAULT THOUGH! it's the stupid owners fault.

Definitely could have been disastrous if the dog ran out in front of him and he didn't see it till it was too late!

    Re: Pitbull vs Ninja!

It was hard trying to get a "read" while this whole thing went down.
Didn't want to sound the horn or rev the bike.
Didn't want to try and outrun the dog and have a short chase.
Didn't want to move my left leg much either as the last thing I need is for "crusher" to lock on to the riding boots and pull me over etc.
Didn't want to hit the dog as I was slowing down.

Perhaps I need to carry some "treats" in my tank bag the next time I find myself in just such a situation.

I know Eric and he is a kind person, so I'm sure he wouldn't want other innocent animals paying the price for one rogue dog.

Leaving out anti-freeze most anywhere in VT would have a little to much collateral damage to all animals for my taste, but each to there own I guess.

P.S. most VT towns do not have leash laws either .

Yeahhhh and most VT towns don't care wether or not your old beater truck or tractor leaks green stuff on the ground. and yesss I use to live in VT .... St J, Lyndonville, Burke, then moved up to Suartstown NH. I miss livin up there.

Beat those dog owners for abiding bythe lack of a law and green fluid leavers .... well for leaving without saying goodbye

guys relax ... take a roofie or something

Ericthejet is OKay and the dog needs some dental work .... it's all good

Call the cops and report it. If you must keep a dog like a pitbull you need to pay the piper when you let it get free.

If this happened to me it wouldn't have ended at this point.

    Re: Pitbull vs Ninja!

I was riding a bicycle yesterday after work, on the phone (with a fellow NESRian, oddly enough) when I see 2 dogs running alongside me, barking up a storm. One barking cat, one full-sized mutt. No sooner do I think to myself "huh, they're staying right on the property line, must be an electric fence" than they come into the street, one on each side of me. Followed me for a bit, barking up a storm. I eventually had to put the phone in my pocket and get to pedaling for real to drop the damn things, by this point we were prob 1/8th-1/4 mile from their house. I kinda thought the little one was going to try to latch onto a leg, it was far more agressive than the bigger one.

    Re: Pitbull vs Ninja!

Well, I'm very careful with coolant around our house as we have a dog and she hangs out with me when the Ninja is getting my attention. Funny thing is she has no fear of the bike's noise etc.

I'm also thinking that the owner of the lose dog may be thinking that it also could have turned out much worse and may keep his pet tied up a bit better in the future. Maybe not?

I need new tires soon and may switch to another brand in an effort to thwart off such K9 desires to eat rubber.

Can you really blame the dog? Michelins are tasty, especially pilot powers!
