How about "made contact"?

Don't get me wrong, the guys on the bikes were obviously complete asshats, but the point is, it seems to portray a very dramatic situation when no one even got hurt. For all we know it was a game of cat and mouse with some contact being made while the bikers tried to wiggle their way out of it. Did the cop jump in front of the rider? Did the rider who struck the cruiser merely bump it while trying to turn around? Who knows, but it seems to make more sense that the riders were just trying to get away and the contact was more incidental than anything.
So they were trying to evade police and incidentally struck an officer. Regardless of ambulance rides it still seems pretty serious of a situation. News these days is in the business of selling stories so there is a good chance this shit is embellished a bit but the situation still seems pretty serious to me.

almost never, so yes i'd probably be off by a larger margin. troopers bag people doing 100+ all the time, nothing new for them.

sure, it's possible someone decided to embellish...but why risk your job filing a false report? the speeding citation is the least of their concerns when they get caught. what sounds more plausible is someone said "doing about double the speed limit" and now you've got 65 x 2 in the news report.

then again, is it really hard to believe that out of a group with these additional outstanding accomplishments:

at least one with a stolen plate (which frequently ends up attached to a stolen vehicle)
    one crashed into a cruiser
one managed to hit a trooper
two rode the wrong way on the interstate to escape

that maybe, just maybe, a couple of them might have been willing to flee at 130 mph?

true. most people aren't state troopers.

Oh I definately agree. These guys are obviously punks, who knows how bad things could have gotten, especially with them heading the wrong way down the highway.

As BSR6 said, this story sounds embellished.
30? i can consistently do visual estimates within 3 mph.

i'm sure most people here with a few years experience can make a fairly accurate estimate of how fast they are driving/riding without needing to check their speedometer. same idea, different perspective.
I've had cops tell me stories like that.

If the riders made an illegal U-turn and then drove down the wrong side of the road, does that mean they were on the wrong side of the road to begin with? or did they simply turn around in their own lane? and if so, is that really a U turn?

Four motorcyclists did stop for State Police. State Police said all of the bikes appeared to be foreign-made and with Massachusetts registrations. The motorcyclists appear to be from Holyoke.
I am pretty sure all this info is readily available..

Why didn't the cop get out of the way ?
Wasn't he paying attention to what was going on aond him ?
Dam , or was he trying to swat the biker in hopes he would fall off his bike .
    Embelish ?
Or just spin the story to make the worst posible outcome . Hmmm
I wouldn't even mention the word integrity in this story !
Bikers didn't make great dissicions that day , but come on !

The cop didn't get out of the way because he didn't feel the need to. Sounds like he knew he wasn't in danger, and therefore the contact was likely incidental.

Appearing to be from Holyoke means they were Puerto Rican. The Flats are going to be hot after this crap.
