I bump start my street bike every time it starts right now... battery is useless except to start the fuel pump... try bump starting it a few times just using the battery to pressurize fuel, if it bumps up nice then go for it, if it struggles then spend the (not much) money.

Maybe I'm just in shit shape. But bump starting my SV while wearing full gear is a STRUGGLE. Can't imagine doing that to a 1098.

    Strategy over tactics.

During my little tour of EU in April in the snow either I just used too much electric with my gear or there was a battery problem. Regardless, after day 1 (of a total of 3) every start was a bump start. Full (2 piece) leathers. Heated gear under. Rain gear over. Morning of day 2 (when I wasn't aware of the problem) I learned to park well. I spent about 2.5 hrs on an extremely small hill, in the snow and rain trying to get a hawk started. Not speaking Slovakian didn't help, but i did learn that where you park or stop is more important than what shape you are.

I'm in shape. Round is a shape.

NHMS's garage area has no discernible hill to park on. There is a very gentle slope behind the north garages. But it isn't nearly enough. I have verified this first hand. .. Unless they let me start garaging at the top of T9, having a sparky battery or some friends ready to push is important.

But I still wouldn't replace a battery until it shows me signs that it is effed.

But then I am chronically cheap. So YMMV.

There is a perfectly good hill going down into the tunnel.

    That hill isn't very convenient

I don't think I'm cheap enough to park at the tunnel for a track day. I am spendy enough to have brought a charger to every track day I've attended. I've never used it, but am aware.

Of course other problems can occur.

On my 848, if you cycle up through the mode switch, it should give you a battery read out. 12.8 off 13-14+ (I think mine read 14.2) running is about where it should be. Pretty sure the 1098 has the same feature.

the higher the compression and bigger the bore the harder its gonna be to bump start. add in a slipper clutch and you're gonna have a lot of trouble.

If you're asking, then you're concerned.

I'll go against the crowd and say replace it...
