    New Project

My new project. A CB900f Super Sport
I want to keep it almost stock as its a very sentimental bike for the guy I'm doing it for.
Heres how it was when I picked it up

After a little engine paint, some aluminum polish and a new years weekend later

It wasn't running when I got it so some more getting hands dirty and some electrical work had it running like a good un.
I'll try to post up progress as it happens but I want it done quick as the payment for doing this is a Katana 1100 in similar or worse shape (so yup another project).

    New Project

Tonight I put on a starter from a parts bike I have as the one on it was lazy and it was quicker than ordering parts to rebuild it.
The tank is almost ready for paint, I'm keeping the stock colors and painting the decals on, the tailpiece, fender and right side panel are just getting the decals repainted and when I get it the left side panel will need a full repaint to match.
The guy just wanted me to get it into running shape but I would've felt like I was robbing him of his Katana so I decided to do a paint and polish on it too

TheIglu I have a CB750C parts bike and a spare motor, but many parts are interchangable so let me know if you need anything.

RGVER did you do the engine painting yourself?

If so do you want work?

I have a few things that need Sandblasting and painting.

How good is your painting on plastic and tanks for the modern sport bike?

Yup all my own work. As for the plastic painting, I haven't done much but like I say I'll be painting the tank and decals on on this bike and I'll show pics so people can make up their own minds how it is.
I dont do it professionally, just a hobbyist really.

I'll also show the paint on the Katana when I get it as thats about as modern as I will have
If you have work I'll see what I can do for you

Spent last night and today painting bodywork, the decal shown had to be fully repainted and the other side needed a touch up.

The tank still needs clear coating so still time for a royal fuck up.
Left to do is the tires, some more polishing and repainting the wheels and fork bottoms
    So heres the evidence

I rather leave my bike with you than a lot of so called professionals that do this for a living!

Please don't judge me on that one I didn't do it. It's next in line for the paint gun. It was cheap what can I say. It cost me $50 with new tires new exhaust and all I've done to it is ride it as my beater oh and I recovered the seat with the vinyl from an old recliner as it came to me covered in some nasty fleece like stuff. YUP it's one nasty paint job and color scheme .
This one is probably going back to stock colors too. Or maybe I'll all out fighter it using some ZX6 parts I have squirrelled away

    Thanks for the compliments guys

Just broke my heart a bit is all. My first streetbike was an '85 GPz 750. A friend had the black one, I had the silver. Silver was faster...

And yup it did with the clear coat. A slightly clogged nozzle blew a thick stream of clear coat right across the center of the tank

So I gotta sand it down and probably have to repaint the black section. Thankfully it missed the graphic

Finally found a left side panel on ebay. It needs painting to match as this is a white one. One more week and this thing will be completed. Hope the roads dry out so I can take it for a quick run before it goes back home.
I'll post pics of the completed bike all polished up

Looks good. I'm actually going through the same thing with a 1976 CB200. Not as much detail though (paint etc). Just want it running and safe. Bike only has a couple hundred miles

Finally got the pair of side panels delivered, got the one I need almost fully painted, I just need the red stripe and clear coat. Heres a pic of it next to its ex-matching one.
This bike is almost finished, just needing the panel finish and a final polish and its going home. Then I get my 1100 Katana to play with.

Finished and its going home, I'll sorta be sad to see it go back as this ones sorta grown on me especially after the quick ride I took on it today, it rides really nice and has plenty of balls there when you give it a twist.
    So here it is.

That's impressive work. One of these years I'm going to do a complete teardown and rebuild of my CB400F... But I gotta ask: How do you typically restore engine cases on these things?

On the old Brit bikes it's easy because you basically just blast them with walnut shells and then polish the covers, but the Japanese engines are often painted silver and then coated with some kind of nasty clear plasticky coating that turns yellow with age. Does anybody try to reproduce this stuff, and if so how? With old CB750s starting to be worth big money I'm guessing that restorations need to get more and more accurate.
