I have a 2005 CBR600RR and I was surfing my car forum and came across a fellow with the same bike, but his had all the tribal taken off.
It just looks so much more clean without all that tribal madness. Has anyone on here done this before? I was gonna embark on this and could use some tips/help![]()
Heat and patience.
for your plastics, NOTHING hotter than a blow dryer and hold at least 6 inches away and wave back and forth to heat decal and peel off slowly.....
Decal removal isn't all that hard. The very first thing you need to do is verify that they are not clear coated. You can confirm this by finding and edge with your fingernail. If you can catch an edge, then they are not cleared. If it slides over them, then they are and you're looking at a respray to do the job right.
Do this and you'll be fine.
1. Wash the bike first. You're be touching the panels a lot and any left over road grime and/or dirt with scratch your clear coat.
2. Remove the panels you're working on. You can skip this step if you want, but the right way to do it is to remove the piece.
3. Get yourself a hair dryer (NOT A HEAT GUN) and use the lowest setting to soften up the adhesive behind the decal. Don't leave it in one spot too long and don't use it too closely to the plastics (no closer than 6 inches).
4. Peel an edge and work slowly. If you rush, the decal rips and you leave more glue to clean up later.
5. Once the decal is off, use Original polish to clean off the adhesive. You may need to wax the panel if the paint is faded from sun exposure.

Jason the only graphics on the Honda that are clear coated are the tank graphics (if the fairing is stock that is) so you wont be able to take off the little tit of the triangle on the tank cover without sanding off the clear and messing up the paint. All the other ones can be taken off by the processes these guys posted.
I've taken some of the decals off the plastics I bought this winter for the track.
Also, the bike in the picture is red, do you have the tribal graphics on a red RR?

yea i have a red tribal'ed RR. i figured it would look sleeker, and thanks for the input, i will most definitely try this next week when the bike is back on the road.
hopefully a friend of mines can re-fiberglass the cracks in the fairings from previous owner's wheelie frenzy
Also a neat trick to clean of any residue. I've used olive oil on a soft cloth, let it soak a few mins then lightly rub. Buffs off clean. will not damage the paint and softens the glue.
