    question about riding with people

I don't like assholes, therefore, I avoid group rides. There's always assholes in group rides. Why bother? I don't need the headache. I'd rather just ride my own ride at my own pace, without having to worry about punkass jerkoffs in front or behind me. I know, I know. From what I hear, it can be a good time, and I've been 2-up on a few, but I still don't feel comfortable. My Man God has been on way too many rides where people have crashed, or gotten busted with the cops. His stories have always steered me away from groups. I'd rather just ride with him by my side. At least I know what to expect with him.

    question about riding with people

I think that group rides are tricky, that is based on the stories I read/hear. The couple of group rides I have done were great, I had a lot of fun. What I like the most is getting the chance to learn something new by riding with other people. I also think that when you mentor someone, riding or otherwise you actually learn more yourself, even if it's stuff you already knew.

The more I ride the more I realize that riding fast on the street is really dangerous, group rides could complement or complicate that scenario I think.

I most enjoy riding with people who are more experienced than myself....it raises the bar for me and gives me a good lead to follow.

Most expereinced riders ride a pace, I'm not saying that you won't see an occasional hooligan twist, if you can't keep up in the curves, don't go 90mph trying to catch back up in the straight, if somebody is right behind you in the corners and you cant keep up, waive the rider behind you ahead, if the rider behind you doenst want to pass he won't, but if your parkin it in the corners in front of him, it will make for a better ride and safer situation.

I basicly stopped riding group rides of any size because of riders riding above their skill level , a group ride isn't a race or a track day, there's no reason really to see a brake light in front of you except at stop signs.

I do ride a lot alone too, not because I'm a snob, if you want to follow me on the gravel roads, your welcome, your also welcome to join my Kanc Ride

    question about riding with people

    The good of a group
    Freindship
    Other sets of eyes
Usually LEO's seem kinder to groups
    Teach or learn something.
Help if your down like a broken leg down an embankment
Take turns in the lead as leo or hazard bait
Knows roads and places you don't

    The bad
    Riding with someone not compatible
Passes to much or to little
    Endangers himself, you or both
Has power commander so your in a gas cloud

I think the perfect group is up to 5 if everybody willing to ride about the same. If not then smaller is better like 3.

I am old so I will tell you that if you are a life long street rider you will meet many people who will get in and the just as soon get back out. If you want a riding buddy I stongly advise that you encourage and participate in some group rides for when your one suck buddy moves out of town.

    Positvie->Negative->Positive

Intro yourself and complement the dude somehow (yep, it can be tough to flesh out a complement at times...) and let them know you're happy to have the new company....then get down to business and tell 'em directly what they're doing wrong, how to correct it, and that everybody's learning, explaining the safety issues and that if they don't want to abide they are probably riding with the wrong group, because everybody else expects predictable riders when in the group but new riders are welcome if they are willing to learn/change riding technique, etc.....then remind them again that it's nice to have the company and hope to see them back again.

The above approach generally works. When it doesn't (and you've kept your cool), tell 'em to bugger off and don't come back.

    No time for hypersensitive arrogance.
