Race Coolant, Engine Ice.

Hey everyone,

I have a question and hopefully you guys will have favorable answers.

I have the Penguin Road Race School this Friday and I spoke to Jeff Wood and he says that I need to run either a race coolant or straight water in my bike .
I've called around to the local shops (Bettencourts, South Shore Motorsports) and nobody carries the stuff. Where in the world can I get it on short notice???

I don't want to run staright water because it doesn't have the same lubricating abilities as coolant and I plan on doing a few more track days before the season is over.

What you want is Water Wetter, and most shops carry it. If not, I wouldn't sweat running water only for a day. Just refill with coolant. No problem.

i think this is the stuff i'm running in my 04 r1

how much do you need, as i recall i got an extra jug of it.

btw: i got it at bettencourts.

You can get water wetter at most auto parts stores, I know pep boys and autozone carries it. Be sure to mix it properly or it will be just as slick as antifreeze

As a bonus your bike might run cooler. Just don't forget to put antifreeze back in before winter (unless you store in a heated area).

I'm with Paul. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Your bike will be fine just running water... If it has Aluminum heads or rads (it does) it'd be best to fill it with distilled water (esp. if you plan on leaving the water in for any extended period of time). You can usually find distilled H2O at drug stores for a couple bucks. If it's just for the day you probably don't even need to worry about using distilled, but (since it's easy enough to find) I would, FWIW.

If I can't get a hold of it I just may take you up on that offer. Of course I will pay you for it.
That's funny that Bettencourts carries it. I was just there last week buying a new helmet and the bonehead behind the counter gave me a stupid look and said they don't have it engine ice or water wetter. I'll have to speak to Dave Bettencourt directly to get it I guess.

when i got it in 04 if you faced away from the counter it was next to the oil.

as i recall we chatted on the r1 board some time ago.

sema south east mass. about 6 miles from bettencourt's

as to the 04 it's nice. i'm up in the air over getting rid of it next year for a 06 (i do a new sportbike every two years)

or get rid of the motard for a super duke.

You live 6 miles from Bettencourts? Cool, I grew up in Bridgewater.

sandman was already taken it's justforme.

i think it had to do with the front and rear mounted video. it was either that or the gps/radar mount thread.
