I've been wanting to get one for a while as I think it'd be a good alternative to wearing a backpack. My requirements are as follows:
-Clear map pocket at top for radar detector and/or gps.
-Some kind of carrying strap, not just a handle.
-Must be able to fit a change of clothes in it.
-Must be magnetic, duh!
Do you guys have any recommendations for me? There's just so much to choose from.

I've been using a Marsee expandable just about every day for the last eight years or so. No complaints. It's the perfect size for a 12 pack of Sam Adams.
+1 on the Marsee. Mine comes with a detachable strap that wraps around the outer circumference of the bag when not in use, there is a separate removable pouch on the front that has clips for wearing on a backpack, etc. It's big enough to carry camera, etc. Main bag expands big enough to hold a helmet (just to give an idea) or enough clothes for a change. Has a clear top pouch for maps, etc.
Tour Master.
3 different bag combinations.
Option 1. Large bag
Option 2. Small bag
Option 3. zip small bag onto large bag.
Comes with rain cover.
LG. bag has a backpack straps.
sm + lg. have clear map section.

I use a Nelson Riggs bag and like it.
Downside is that it's pretty tall and makes it difficult to get down on the bike.
Great for long trips though.
Here it is:

I cant use magnetics anymore because the trump has a plastic tank but when I had my SV I scratched the SHIT out of the tank when trying to take it off. If I had know I would have gotten a strap back like I have now. Much better and it has NEVER moved on me.

I hear the magnet scratching the tank thing, but you just need to be carefull to not let sand get under the tank bag and lift up the magnets instead of draging them off your tank. I love my tour master magnetic with 3 options, but then I got a plastic tank. I have not found a great strap bag yet.

I have this bag and it has never moved on me. I like it alot. Wish it was bigger at times but glad its not as well.

I use the Icon Tank bag that converts into a backpack and it works great.
I have the Tour Master 3 in 1 tank bag (expandable). Not a scratch on my tank...ditto just be carefull not to get sand and dirt under it and don't drag it when you take it off. Don't put your tank bag on the ground where it's dirty. Mine does have a clear top for maps and other stuff (you might remember it from our ride?)

I cut out some non slip surface mats, similar to what you use in a tool chests, to help avoid scratching my tank. Works well and is cheap and easy to find.

ive never gotten a scratch, but just have to check the bottom before i put it on as i tend to put it down around metal alot so i end up with razor blades, s hooks, and screws stuck to the bottom

I have the Nelson Rigg mini tank bag and it works great.
Exactly...
Might want to check how the tank bag is going to fit when you're sitting on the bike:
I added a luggage rack to the back of the SV, so I can carry a lot more stuff (I am also getting a tail bag that goes on the pillion seat, so I have even more options...).
What you can't see, is that I have a GPS and Camera mount for the gas cap, so I need to set my tank bag a bit back. Because it's small, it's not an issue, but depending how you position the bag, and your body, you might find a really large tank bag gets in the way. YMMV

fits more than you think but it's not huge. i've done a double-overnight including space for toiletries and a pair of sneakers (didn't wanna be walking around in moto boots and shorts)

Pretty sure mine is an older model Nelson Riggs expandable. Works good, but kind of gets in the way when expanded. Tucking down is not going to happen even when collapsed. The new rounder model might be more comfortable.
I recently got a Motopak tank bag and love it (big improvement over the Suzuki one I had before). Mine is strap-mount so I can put my digital SLR in it without worrying about magnets possibly damaging it, but they also make magnetic versions.
It's a nicer tank bag than most of the ones I've seen in stores, and their prices are lower than most.

If your gas cap can have the adapter fitted, I 100% reccomend the Bags-Connection range - their quick release ring system is very secure.
Twisted Throttle carry them over here, - TwistedThrottle.com : ...by Brand - Bags-Connection - Tankbags (with SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock gascap base) -
Look up your make+model on the chart, get the right adapter ring, 10 minute install and tada!

I have a non-expandable Fieldsheer bag I got for $25 at Brockton Cycle. (they don't sell Fieldsheer anymore)
It fits a day's worth of clothes and works great. As for the magnets scratching the tank, what the others said. Just don't slide the magnets on the tank. Make sure they're clean when you mount them and place the bag on and pull it straight off.
Everyone gives me a hard time about saying this but I will say it now and will continue every time someone talks about magnetic tank bags....
Be careful.. I lost all my credit cards and my cell phone data because of a magnetic tank bag a few years ago. I don't know if they have improved on design or whatnot but just something to keep in the back of your mind. I had a Nelson-Rigg from a few years back. I liked it unti I went to get gas one day and the debit card no worky, tried another card and it no worky. Called the wife and my phonebook was all gone. Lost the pics on the digi too btw.
