I currently own a Suomy, a Shoei and a Scorpion. Woah, they all start with an S...

The Scorp is the one I wear all the time.

I work at a bike shop so I try on everything we get in. I Dont like the fit of the Icon beacuse it cuts into the back of my neck real bad. I dont like the fit of a Shark cause its way too wide around my ears and too tight at the top of my head and too tight at the bottom as well. I wanna like the Arai bit it just dosent fit ME as well as a Shoei or Scorpion....

I own an Icon right now, and other than having to change out the cheekpads (stock ones were SUPER tight), it's a very comfortable helmet. I've also tried an HJC and I wasn't impressed - there is just not enough room for my glasses to sit on the bridge of my nose.

I did like the feel of the Shoei RF-1000, very light, pretty comfortable, but its too expensive and has kind of a boring selection of paint schemes.

Ultimately I like my Icon and I don't mind the extra weight, I went through 4 years of having to wear a Kevlar helmet in the Marine Corps so it's not a burden at all.

I heard we could use Tupperware, anyone know of any fogging issues with those?

I traded this in for an Arai...the old one was more comfortable though....

Long article that I read awhile back, actually tests a bunch of helmets in different impacts. Not the most perfect testing but a lot better than the pure bullshit that floats around most of the time regarding helmets.

That is an old article that most are familiar with.

There is proof that SOME lower priced helmets transmit fewer G's on initial impact. The problem is that many are Polycarbonate. These will not pass tech. Why? You say. Some believe that the properties of a composite helmet work better at distributing loads and don't "bounce back" as much. But that is another argument.

Let's just say if they won't pass Tech at a race track I PERSONALLY don't want to wear one on the street. No matter what the studies say.

at the end of the article there is an open letter written to motorcyclist from SNELL and a reply to that letter from motorcyclist. if you read the article you need to read the letters also.

Given the right impact, a pillow wrapped around your head would transmit fewer Gs to your head than the fanciest of helmets. Does this mean I should wear a pillow instead of a helmet? No, it means that the pillow is better at absorbing low impacts. Given a more severe impact, however, the pillow will compress fully and will transmit more Gs to your brain.

What matters most in preventing traumatic brain injuries is that the helmet always transmit less than (accepted threshhold for traumatic brain injury) Gs to your head given the greatest impact we are likely to see. This means designing helmets with more rigid, less compressible EPS liners than you might otherwise do if your goal was to minimize the G forces transmitted across a wide variety of impacts. This, again, is why motorcycle helmets are not designed to prevent concussions. They are designed to prevent death, and permanent brain injury.
