Let's see who had a more awesome Memorial Day Weekend so far.
I got hit by a 1998 Ford Ranger, how about you?
==
Extended story to follow. And for those who want it quick, fast, and easy:
Got hit by truck. Stayed upright. Here I am.
==
The long version:
Sunday morning, I do what I usually do on a weekend morning. Wake up, slum around, and then finally decide to shower, jump on the bike and grab some breakfast.
Usually, I gear up to the nines: Helmet, gloves, boots, overpants. Today, I just wanted to grab breakfast and then go home to chill. Actually, I was going to go home, jump in the cage and pick up some spray wax and stuff to give the bike a nice shine before heading out tonight to see some friends. Anyway, I didn't have overpants on, b/c they're not terribly comfortable to sit in. Sometimes, I just want to be a hooligan.
Had breakfast, talked to the lovely girls that worked at the diner, same old, same old. Then rode home -- the long way, naturally.
I am coming down route 126, about to turn right onto Mann Street. I slow down and put my blinker on. Slowing down is crucial, Mann Street is tight, and the entrance always has sand, and the road is pothole covered.
I begin to lean over... *BAM* there's a truck on my right hand side... a few luck factors here:
- I didn't turn IN FRONT of his truck
- I hadn't fully committed into my lean yet (early in the turn)
I run into an angle into his driver side door, manage to stay upright, but as we're now both moving forward, I get jammed onto the side of his truck -- I think maybe my handlebar got wedged between the cab and the bed or something.
*POP* *POP*
Pieces of my windshield come flying at me as I try to keep it upright...
I am now being pulled along, 'stuck' against the truck. I'm not fighting, b/c I don't know what's going to happen. I somehow manage to free the bike, roll away, and keep upright. I somehow manage to avoid being hit by oncoming vehicles (there were none -- rare) as I get to the opposite side of the read.
I hop off the bike and the driver of the truck exclaims, "You're blinker wasn't on!"
"Actually, it was sir, and it's still on," I say as I point towards the bike.
Not less than 2 minutes later I hear a police car. "Damn, that's fast," I think to myself. As I was talking to the officer, I said, "You must have just been down the street." (Speed trap area). "Yeah," he replies, "I saw traffic wasn't moving, and a lady told me someone had just hit a motorcycle." I guess he had called for reinforcements too, b/c he said they were on their way.
I've never seen so many emergency vehicles in one place in my life... and apparently, they had never seen such a minor motorcycle accident in theirs... so we were even. It took them a while to get there, so I'm thankful that it wasn't a worse accident.
Pictures of the damage will follow.
I am okay, the worse of my scrapes occurred on the inside of my LEFT leg... weird. Since my right side was the one between the truck and my bike. Luckily, I was upright the whole time and didn't go down. I am very lucky.
I think I got everything. Ask lots of questions to stir up my memory before I forget, and so I can write a good detailed report.
PS: LEO's helped make sure we exchanged all the proper info.
In fact... the best part was when he was giving us our paperwork back, and handed the driver of the truck a ticket, "This is for improper lane change."
"Even though I thought he was going to turn the other way?" (Change in story here, since the first time was, "You didn't have a blinker on." and now it's "I thought he was turning left...")
"You must maintain control of your vehicle at all times."
They towed my bike home (all of TWO BLOCKS, I WAS TWO BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE).

Most of the damage is to the front here... I assume that's where the truck and I collided... and as he moved forward, I think my handlebar got caught between the cab. There was a huge dent where... I think my foot would be... but my whole right side feels fine... no scrapes or anything. +1 for boots! And the jacket!
The front cowling assembly is going to need to be replaced. Can salvage at least the half of the stuff (headlight, mirror, etc.)... the only problem I noticed right away, was that the metal frame that supports the cowling is broken... Grrr.
As you can see, the damage was pretty minimal. Centralized to the front area. The exhaust is ever so slightly scuffed. And the lower fairing wasn't harmed at all ... save for:
Not sure what that is?! Maybe off his bumper? Or side moulding? Weird. This is the only damage to the lower fairing, which can be wet sanded and painted -- no problem.
Didn't understand this at all -- must be from my jacket or something...
Nice save... just got this jacket last week. Great. Whatever that is, it burned/melted the material...
Teeny scrape... on MY LEFT ARM!?!?! Weird.
This is the worst of the damage... and that's my LEFT leg... you'd think it'd be my right leg (the one between the bike and truck...) Actually, my right hand hit the truck, but my gloves saved me big time. I was just shaken and slightly sore, but I've hurt myself worse.
She will rise again...
damn dude, glad you kept it up, crazy story. How many people get hit and keep in on 2??????
Basically, I wasn't fully into my lean yet, so I hit his truck at an angle... I think that forced the both of us to then go in the same direction, and then my handlebar, or bike somehow got 'stuck' on the side of his truck. I couldn't pull away, and I couldn't force anything for fear I would slide into on coming traffic, or whatever.
=
All you racers with SVs... got stock body parts?
The huge bummer is, the metal frame taht supports the upper cowling is also broken.

that sucks man- glad you're ok
Bras cause cancer.
Damn, sorry to hear about the accident, but it's nice to hear about one on the street where the rider walks away for a change.

Given the police repot and ticket, why not go through his insurance to have your bike made fully right? All new bodywork, etc, factory paint?
99.9% Luck, 0.1% skill.
Had I been quicker, or he slower, he would have hit me right on my right side head on... T-boned me while I was in a turn...
I somehow managed to not totally freak out (although I was freaking out), and kept it up right somehow.
The whole street was packed w/ emergency vehicles (I guess they heard "motorcycle accident" and went all out). All the responders were amazed I didn't go down, and I was walking around...
Pretty much what's going to happen... I'm just impatient, LOL. And I can't even start until Tuesday... stupid holidays.Given the police repot and ticket, why not go through his insurance to have your bike made fully right? All new bodywork, etc, factory paint?

Wow, sorry to hear about your accident dude. Had a Ford truck hit me too last year except my story is a little simpler. It was one of those "I didn't see you" excuses from the cage. Messed my right leg up and I had to drop out of crew (as in the sport) for the entire winter.
Glad to hear that you are not badly hurt.

damn, thats a helluva way to start your day...glad you pulled through it ok....sounds like you kept your cool and went with the flow as it unfolded. I remember reading...that most accidents happen within 5 miles of home. You got that down to two blocks!! The LEO's sure did a fine job of taking care of you and the situation...ticketing that blind asshat. Anyway...good to see you're ok...yep, good story for the chica's!!![]()

Holy smokes, that WAS you that I saw at Main St. Cafe last weekend. I wondered, since there aren't too many Asian guys in Blackstone who ride. I was the guy who asked about your helmet. When did you get rid of the Kawi? I made some positive comments about your bike to my wife and son.
Sorry about the bike and glad to hear your ok. Someone upstairs was looking out for you.
BTW, the thin redhead at the diner is a cutie, you should ask her out.
OMG
HAHAHA... too funny man! Shoot. That's so funny. Nice to "meet" you I guess. Now that I think of it... HJC, looking at a Scorpion... Retrospect man. I remember you saying you wanted to buy an EXO700 on the boards a while back -- the Burst.
I'm in there every weekend - usually on Saturday. Hell, I was there this AM... I think I said that in the post. You saw the bike. Freakin' mint. less than 6,000 miles when I bought it (it's an '03). * sigh *
I sold the Kawi like a month ago to my friend. So it's actually still around in Blackstone... LOL.
PS: She is cute... I dunno if she's single though... and if she's even legal, LOL. I know her older sister (who usually serves me) is 21... so... yeah...
She asked me my name today (the redhead), saying "all the other girls are too scared to ask." Didn't know what that was all about.
PPS:... going to watch the fireworks tonight? I'll be there... sans bike. Darn it.Look for the Asian guy... there's not that many, lol.
For sure.
I'm just impatient ... well, no, I'm a patient person.
I just want to ride! So that's what all my jibber jabber about fixing it on the cheap was. I'm having that thing fixed up right, and also getting new gear... funny, I was looking at a new jacket today... who knew I'd be replacing one, and NOT adding to my collection.
