Hi, last march I introduced myself on hear with the tag line "probably moving to NH"... well a year later I'm living in beautiful Hanover, and soon enough it'll be riding season. I stored my SV650 for the winter in my friend's garage and just got it going again.
I've got track plastics on order and soon my bike will be a race bike for the LRRS series, but before I convert it I'd love to do some riding in the area. Last fall my bike was basically a 70 hp scooter...
Any locals watching MotoGP? None of my classmates (i'm a grad student at Dartmouth) watch motorcycle racing...

Welcome to the area. I don't know anybody up here who watches the races either! I end up watching the downloaded races on my computer at home.![]()

now that it's been spoiled:
watching hopkins go down was the most exciting and most depressing part of the race
Where's everybody downloading the races from? I missed the first two.

Enjoy the area while your here, your within about 1/2 hour of the best riding in New England.

People tend to get a bit...sensitive about posting their favorite routes for all to see. You honestly can't go wrong with ANY direction. Southwest, there's some great stuff. The green Mountains are my favorite destination. Northwest through West Fairlee and Chelsea are nice if you don't mind a rougher road surface. Tou can do the Kancamangus Hway, look over by Tamworth.
I have yet to be disappointed by leaving my map at home and just heading out for a day in random directions.

I have not ridden in VT enough yet, but from the time I have ridden in VT I really liked crusing on RT 9 overlooking the Green Mountains. Very sweet.
It is such a nice state any direciton you ride.
I grew up about 30 miles north of Hanover - Nice loop - head up route 10 north, in Orford go over Mt Cube on rt 25 (C I think), left in Wentworth on 118, left onto route 25 in Pike (B??) drops you out in Haverhill, then either back to Hanover on route 10 south, or over into Vermont to run route 302 from Wells River to 25 into Bradford, down Route 5 to Norwich - Have fun!!!

I did that today... The road was relatively gravel-free, but unfortunately the abyssmal pavement was pretty uncomfortable on my bike. my SV has gsxr parts set up for the track. I think my friends' Dual Sport or Motard would have been a much better choice.

Next time take 118 from Warren (where you hit 25) up over the MT to Woodstock/Lincoln area. The east side of that Mt was repaved in the last few years and has lots of twisties. 112 and 116 are decent roads once your up in that area as well. Someone mentioned the kank, you really have to hit that the right time of the year/week to stay away from all the tourists.
New England roads can be rough, but don't give up just yet, things will smooth out a bit once we get through mud season.
110 from Royalton VT toward Barre
113 thru chelsea, vershire - pavement can be shit but nice ride
local - 132 from norwich thru strafford over to Sharon has some nice sections.
local - Camp Brook rd over the Mt from Bethel VT to Rochester VT
local - Pomfret Rd - West Hartford VT to Rt 12 in Woodstock.
Anything east/west in VT
My favorite afterwork loop.
Rt 4 West out of Woodstock VT. I recomend the above Pomfret rd to get to woodstock durring commute hours, Rt 4 is a real drag if you get stuck behind grandma. You can head south either on 100A in bridgewater corners or stay on 4 a few miles and pick up 100 south. Both options are nice and end up in the same place, Rt 100 South. Stay on 100 into Ludlow, Then 103 for a few miles before picking up 131. 131 is a great rd with great pavement. If your running late for dinner at this point you can stay on 131 to I91 and zip back to Hanover. Better option is to bang a left onto 106North at the blinking light in Downers Corners. Then Rt onto 44 East, there is about 1 mile of great twisties, then a nice country rd into Windsor. Then pick your rt home, Rt 5N in VT, Rt 12A North in NH or slab it on I91. If I remember right its about 120mile loop.
VT highway info.
Speedlimit is 50mph unless otherwise posted, this includes dirt rds.
You CAN pass on a Double Yellow Line when safe.
