So today a friend of my fathers tells me one of his buddies lives on 17. Every morning this guy gets up and runs the gap on his bike before work. Remember a few weeks ago about the Bristol area politician wanting to go after loud exhausts? Well that's now in the works apparently. The lower part of the road where the houses are, many many residents there are quite pissed at us 2 wheeled lovers, all of them are whining about noise and speed. According to this fellow the LEO's are out in full force in the area and are going after people with aftermarket exhaust as well as looking for people hauling along.
Yesterday, a friend and I went over 17 from NY to Waitsfield and saw no officers, though it was later in the day. But like I mentioned, we already heard about people out there being pissed about the noise...so I'd watch it on 17. Starksboro / Bristol side of 17, the lower areas with the houses. That's not to say LEOs won't be everywhere on the road though.

WTF....So much for my weekend trip to the Great Rt-17. I Hope the heat is off be time I get up there.
I was there yesterday around mid day. No LEOs. But there were a few loud Harleys.

I'm not a pessimist, I'm an optimist with experience.

Heading through hunington is always pretty fun. I try and let off a lot when I get down by the houses. No need to annoy those people especially if I am out early in the morning.
i really doubt that there will be a significant increase in 5-0 presence up there. Unless the state is going to dedicate 2 or 3 officers to watch that area on the weekends. I don't see that kinda of allocation, even with the complaints. Be careful non-the-less, and by all means, keep it down going up the hill.

I was up there all day sunday and saw no leos. as far as taring it up by the houses ..not a good idea to dangerous with the driveways..I saw some really loud harleys though. hell my bro put his earplugs in when we were shooting the shit at the top when this one harley 20' from us turned over..it was freaking loud , and the guy had a little beanie helmet and no earplugs on the damn noise maker.....
Also the state is broke and I doubt they will be up there for any amount of time

Yeah, just keep running those loud pipes and pretty soon you'll have nowhere to ride.
I wonder if there is something we can do to seperate the sportbikes from the Harleys.
If it is the Harleys causing the noise complaints or the sportbikes?

rode 17 today, its so freakin bumpy i dont think ill go up there again until its repaved...which means not for a long time i guess. it wasnt enjoyable for me at all, so my pipes wont be making any noise there...not that they made much to begin with.

Yesterday was the second time this year I've ridden it, and I didn't find it to be too bumpy to be enjoyable. I did find it a bit too well-oiled, however—I managed to find a nice bit of oil (well, some slippery liquid, think it was oil but not 100% sure) on the first 180' hairpin going west from Waitsfield, which promptly dumped me on my ass.
No major damage to me or the bike (I'm sore, she got a bent handlebar and the brake pedal got bent, again), but I was a little annoyed I didn't even realize there was an issue until I was on the ground. (Note to self: looking through corner == good. Failing to glance at ground to check for debris or slippery crap == bad).
The guy in front of me in a cooler, older convertible was kind enough to turn around and come back to check on me...I'm not sure if he saw me go down or just noted that I never reappeared in his rearview, but a thumbs up to him for stopping to check on me.
I have heard that sometimes people put stuff on the road to slow people down. I hope that didn't happen in this case.

I think Occam's Razor applies—don't attribute to malice that which may simply be incompetence. When I looked at the road surface (after picking the bike up, finding liquid on the front tire, and moving it out of the way), there was a line of dark going around the corner, near the middle of the travel lane. I'd have to guess somebody had a maintenance issue, was leaking fluids, and left a bit of a trail on their way up.
