I'm dissatisfied with the saddle of my still relatively new to me '96 VFR750... it's way too forward sloped... always end up riding on my gonads with a wedgie 'round the other side!!
Too much weight on my wrists as well, even with Gen-Mar risers.
I've tried to no avail finding a reasonably priced Corbin or Sargent (their 2 piece one looks nice) so a rebuild on my otherwise perfect condition stocker appears the only option.
Sargent is the usually suggested vendor for these services... I've done business with them before, they're quite pricey and I wasn't all that satisfied with the results. The seat they did for me is an ass-buster on long rides.
Have heard frequently that gel inserts are the solution on thin-ish padded seats (Sargent won't use them).
Anyone have opinions on gels, experience with rebuilt seats, maybe referral to a RI/ SE Mass upholsterer with good motorcycle seat cred?![]()

i've been wanting to send my stock seat to "Spencers Motorcycle Seat Mods" for a long time becasue even my Corbin is not comfy on the RR.
they do this Supracor honey comb gel stuff that is suppose to be really good.

You'll pay for it, but that is the way to roll.

Ball buster is due to the tank and handlebar geometry. Seat can't help that without making your reach to the bars longer.

I disagree... if the damned seat wasn't pointing downhill I wouldn't end up after the first bump slipping into the tank and jacking my pants up my arse.
I don't care to raise height any so the only solution is to shave some off the rear of the rider's section before the rise
and it's not all that thick given the up-sloping subframe.
Hence my interest in gels, etc. as opposed to that "Super Cell Atomic Foam" Sargent hawks.
Also I'm hoping the original cover can be reused, it's in great shape.
Helibars are not an option due to fairing clearance.
Thanks for that tip, I should probably get in touch with them... prices look reasonable to me, better than Sargent's, unless I missed something during my quick scan.![]()

Do youself a favor and contact Mal Bates, he has a business called "The Hands of Man", he has more tallent in his little finger then most people have in their entire body. He builds custom seats for all bikes, I have sat and watched him custom build seats for big cruisers like Harleys to sport bikes and everything in between. If you wish to have any kind of custom leather work done, he can do it...
Your maybe 30 minutes away from cranston to where his shop is in NE, CT
tell him Barry sent you
Mal's number 860.564.5799
Another place you could try is Howard's upholstery based out of Marlboro. I gave him my seat from my cbr 1k and let me tell you he worked his magic on it. He uses two different types of memory foam instead of gel due to the fact gel can rupture over time. He even swapped out the cover with a cf look marine vinyl. If you're interested his number is 617-538-4602.
+1, these really help keep you on place on the bike, sliding around much less. You may find less tension on your wrists as well as you can hold on more with your legs.
If you a DIY type, Motorcycle Consumer News did a really thorough article on how to build your own gel or regular seat. I did a quick search and did not find it but I am sure it is out there.
How are they on long rides?
Did you get the basic one (comfort mod) or did you do the LD mod (Long Disance) which adds the Supracor honeycomb gel stuff too?
did you also get the passenger seat done?
"How much does it cost: For a two section seat the riders section comfort mod is $50, lowering at the same time is an additional
$10, the passenger section at the same time is an additional $25*.
For a one piece seat the riders section comfort mod is $50, the passenger area done at the same time is an additional $15*
"LD" upgrade pricing is based on the amount of Supracor used in your model, usually adds $25 to $35 (e-mail for quote)
(*passenger section/area pricing is only valid when done together with the riders section/area)"

I sent my FZ1 seat to a guy named Eddie Copeland in TN. He did a wonderful job in not only making the seat 100% more comfortable, but making it look even better, and grip better. Super nice guy too, and great prices/turnaround time.
My seat, redone:
If you want his email address PM me. I don't like posting email addresses publicly (spam bots...).
I recommend Spencers. I sent him the seat from my Daytona and he worked his magic on it. I'm very happy with it now. I had bought a Corbin for it and it was terrible.
I have a corbin now, it's better than stock, but not good by any means.
