I don't think anyone is dissing older bikes in this thread. It's the potential problems that are likely when you combine a non-enthusiast with a fixer-upper that is being questioned.

BTW, I bought a KZ750E brand new in 1984 as a leftover and absolutely loved it, until it was stolen. My replacement- a CB900F (no kidding). That bike was awesome!

Yeah i have recently acquired two 70's bikes and am having a blast getting them road worthy. $75 for one and $200 for the other but as has been stated, I'm an enthusiast and enjoy the whole motorcycle experience not just the fuel savings (although it is a bonus)!

A friend of mine has an 18 yo brother in law and he brought him over to my place to get the low down on motorcycle safty and best practices and i was happy to inform him and even more surprising is that he actually followed my advise...imagine that!

oh i completely agree. these new commuters are not buying the bikes to restore, they are risking thier necks to save gas money.

Your right but if someone wants to risk their neck on a bike, it means theres one less bonehead in a car or SUV, the biggest danger when on a bike IMHO
