    Rider down on 17

    Hey guys/gals,

i just went for a ride down 100/100b and over to 17. On the way down i went past an emegency scene on the backside headed towards jerusalem.

it was in one of the more open left handed turns, i know it has sand on the outside and some frost heaves maybe he didn't expect that i dunno.

they had his body on the side of the road covered with a blanket. the channel three truck was there setting up, but only one state trooper and one ambulance.

so sorry for freinds and family, whoever you are. i don't know if it was a local or not. there was a bg maroon colored cruiser there i think that was his bike, a goldwing maybe.

This is the absolute worst thing I've read in a while. Very sobering. Please be careful out there.

This is why a bunch of us kept our bikes parked today... too much craziness on the roads.

RIP who ever you are, and lets hope there aren't any other stories today.

    Re: Rider down on 17

I too passed this very grim scene as well.
I was on my way up to the top coming from the opposite direction putting the accident scene to my left.
As I rolled up I noticed the fire truck and the state trooper's car first and they had people working the traffic with hand held signage. I was signaled to stop and waited for the traffic coming down the hill to pass. It was then that I noticed the responders were not all that busy and then my eyes caught a glimpse of the rider with a blanket on and his helmet exposed. Very sobering, and for some reason once allowed to pass came to a safe spot and pulled over. I was still close to the scene and the responders were busy measuring skid marks and filing out paperwork while some unlucky soul lay nearby in the gravel all by himself. Grim scene and one I will not soon forget.

Up top I stopped for a few swigs of juice in the turnout and the other riders were all talking about this event as you can well imagine. Some speculated he came into the downhill left hander a bit too quick and locked up the rear wheel. No damage was present on the left side of the bike so I'll assume it fell onto the right. It was a big machine with fixed hard bags and a good sized windscreen.

The rest of my ride had me thinking of my own mortality.
I typically prefer to not express myself regarding such matters but today I'm making some room for a few prayers to the stranger and his family.

Much like me, I'm inclined to think he may have started his day with a good-bye from a loved one. RIP

    damn
With a six year old and two year old at home, I think about the safety aspect of riding so much more than I use to.

    What a horrible situation.

I know that the group I ride with, and myself included, look at RT 17/App Gap as a playground road, and while its all in the back of our minds, I know that I forget that its a very dangerous section of pavement, and doesn't take much to send you into the rails.
Too bad it takes something like this to remind us to take it a bit easier.
My thoughts a prayers go out to the family.

    Sucks....

    Seriously to fellow geezers
Results of impact accidents show that
    same impacts at ages

17 Gets up shakes it off
    25 gets up feels bad
    40 probably some serious injuries
55 Life threatening or dead injuries
    70 Just dead

these also respond to physical conditioning.

Wow that's horrible. Surviving over your passenger must be the worst thing that could happen.
