Today while riding home from work I had an “interesting” communication with another motorcyclist. I had come up on a slower rider and followed at about 30 feet behind at forty miles an hour. This was plenty of room and I even did the opposing side of the lane. At no time did I crowd this rider and after three miles at a red light he signaled for a right turn, I signaled for a left turn. The other rider was in the far right side of the lane and I took the left side of the lane waiting for the green light. I smiled and said how do, the other rider said hey then followed with “when did this road get to be two lanes?” I left and thought shit, what a prick! I saw he was looking in his rear view so I flipped em off.
Question is did I crowd him? Maybe he should have stayed in the center of the lane so no one would pull up next to him? Should I have followed him taken his key and tossed it in a sewer drain or ridden behind him so I could tell him he’d be a lot safer in his car or tell him you’re supposed to meet the nicest people on a Honda, why isn’t he one?

    what would Kham do?

Ok so what were you riding. We all know he must have been on a cruiser.

It's legal for two bikes to share a lane. What a dick.

I have to confess that I have far more contempt for bad riders than I do for bad drivers. Motorcyclists should be more competent than the average car driver because they should understand risks far better.

I ride and drive in sach a way that I try to minimize affecting anyone and wish more people would do the same. If I am slowing someone down, I move over to let them by. If I pass, I do so safely. If I pull out of a side road into traffic, I make sure I do not slow traffic down. If I make a left, I do if from as far left as I can safely get; if I make right I do it from as far right as I can safely get. I fully expect folks to utilize the space I leave to go wherever they are going with the least hassle possible. It's such a simple concept...

+1.. I hate when people move way to the right to make a left turn when there is enough room to hug the center line and let people pass on the outside..

Oh man, theres a left turn on my commute where people periodically block the intersection for long periods of time because they don't understand this concept. I'm not a road rage kind of guy, but sometimes I'd like to follow them home and explain what they were doing.

    Rider etiquette?

I had a rider buzz me in my lane once pretty close to show how cool he was. I came up on him stopped at the next traffic light, sped up to 90-100, took aim and locked the back brake. I think he shit himself when he heard the loud squelch of the tire coming flying at him from behind. I giggled.

I had three guys pull up to me at a red, one pulled up on the left, one on the right, and one behind. They looked at me, then each other, and then rolled back. I never quite figured that one out, accept they were chasing me for many miles before, maybe they where shocked to see I was a girl then backed off? Who knows, who cares.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago.......It was an OLDER 65+ rider.

I guess it just pisses some rider off.....so unless it's a friend i'm riding with I stear clear of other riders at red lights.

Not to mention you run the risk of being knocked over when the rider/friend your stopped next to "falls over for no apparent reason"

    Rider etiquette?

If I see a rider on the road I'll catch up, pull in behind them and ride staggered. I figure two of us is easier to see in the cage herd than one. If we stop in traffic or come to a light and the rider is to one side, I'll pull to the other and say, "hello." When it's time to go, I always let the other rider lead.

My guess is that this guy had the misfortune of having somebody pull up next to him then hand him his a$$ when the light turned green. So, now he's bitter and paranoid towards all of us.

I will pull up next to another rider...even if we are both going straight. I always lift my shield, look over at his bike, and say..."Nice bike!" and smile. If he/she was there first I let them go at the turn of the light and follow! If they are going too slow for me I will make as normal a pass as I can so I can get to the next light first. Then I go and ride my normal ride. Never had a negative reaction as far as I know but I just have a disarming, and natural 'nice guy' look so I assume that everyone I meet likes me!

While it is technically illegal to speed, it's also illegal in NH to park your sorry ass in the passing lane if you're holding up FASTER moving traffic. Even if they're all speeding...

Negative. It's illegal to speed, period. Years ago I got a ticket for that very thing. Peterborough, NH - speed limit was 40, blue-hair was doing 30. The Nova I had at the time accidentally hit 85 getting around him. Luckily the speeding fines weren't all that bad at the time. It was only like, a $77 ticket. You are not allowed to break the speed limit to pass a slower vehicle. At least you weren't back then...

I get so many cars sharing my lane in rush hour I would just be happy the other bike was there for some solidarity and to keep the cages back.

Similar to Jaynnus' story on my way home from work last week I had a guy in a fedex uniforn on an R6 (anyone here?) pull up next to me in traffic. I had my visor up, looked over and nodded. When we pulled away from the light he fell in behind me and followed a good 10 car lengths behind me. When he finally moved to the left lane to pass he passed at the furthest point away from me. I've never seen a guy on a sport bike ride as cautiously as this dude - I can't help but think it is because I'm a girl.
