When Honda introduced the 2008 newer model I was the first one to get it.
However it was also one of the oil burners. Basically costing around $3,000 to fix it ( warranty covered it)
I'd like to buy the same model however I want to make sure its not an oil burner.... Do I ask the seller if I can take the bike down to a local shop and see if they can run a test on it ?
Did they ever do a recall on it? Ask the seller if they took in the bike to get it resolved and if so, do they have the receipt.
You should buy my 08 Gixxer 1K instead. The only thing it burns is the rear tire
You mean an over-priced Gixxer.
As for the 08 CBR1000RR, I don't believe there was a recall. I think that it you did get one, Honda would foot the bill to make it right, but it had to be really bad. Find out about recall info here: http://powersports.honda.com/recall-information.aspx
Still not a big fan of the 08+. And I'm a Honda person.

Wouldnt there be signs of it burning oil that could be seen with a couple minutes of wrench time and a 6pack? discoloration of end of exhaust? anything?
+1 on the overpricing of that gixxer... and im a gixxer person. Pawnstars said it best...If people wanna put that kind of money into a custom bike they will just build it themselves.

You would think if it was an oil burner. , there would be signs that would be noticable , like build up if you look in the exhaust, a little more than rich fuel mixture , carbon along any joint in the exhaust and even where the exhaust tip exits near the tail plastic, . I don't know just giving basi, plac,es to look, does anyone know what the fix was , valve seals piston rings , if they dd fix it mid year production , it couldn't have been a whole motor redesign.

There might be some 2008s for sale @ www.1000rr.net. Or Craigslist or a dealer.

I had two 08 CBR1K. Loved those bikes and neither one burned oil. As noted at 1000rr.net the oil burners seemed to be isolated incidents.
Likewise with me. My '08 1000RR did not and still not does burn oil. It's been a great machine all around.
