What are you guys using for riding gloves? Does anyone have a get-off experience they can share about good or bad gloves? I trashed my last pair and am shopping for some new ones. Money is no object because I really like my hands just the way they are.
I did see a brand called "Held" on another forum.
http://www.newenough.com/product_group_gloves_held.htm
I am looking for a kevlar or carbon knuckle glove, not that crappy padded shit like the Icon gloves.
EDIT: Anyone know first hand about Dainese gloves? I love my Dainese jacket but have not tried their gloves.
Held are my glove of choice. Why? I did alot of looking around and reading at the time... not just lame ol cycle world reviews but GET OFF reviews in Roadracing World where they look at the gloves that racers crashed in and how much damage the glove recieved and what injuries if any the riders got also. Held's constantly faired very well in the reviews. I've got two pairs.. a summer kevlar set and a "cooler" weather all leather (kangaroo) set. They might be a bit pricey for some but I look at it as a $150.00 set of gloves is really on $10.00 a finger. I'll ride without a helmet when up at bike week but you'll 99% of the time see me with my Helds on no matter what. You also have to figure they'll last a few years. My first set (kevlar) I've had for at least 5 years now and only now I'm ready to replace them (some threads have worn out and a little stiching is coming undone). Well that's my opinion at least...

15 fingers Chip? do you have extra toes too?
I agree with one thing... I too will ride without a helmet before I ride without gloves. but I'm satisfied with my $9.95 Wells Lamont work gloves... I've crash tested them a couple times too with no injuries to my hands

Held gloves are exceptional. Their Galaxy gloves are about about the best gloves you can possibly buy. If you get them you'll be quite happy. Good thing money is no object.I always have a set of their Gore Tex sportriding gloves in my tankbag for when the weather gets foul and am very happy with them. MotoMarket in Acton stocks Held gloves if you want to try them on. If you already know which size you wear, KneeDraggers carries them.
My latest leather gloves are IXS Circuit gloves, which I'm very happy with. They can be seen
here. I got them from Dave at Motorace (Karaya One on this forum). I paid $115 IIRC, roughly half of what the Galaxies cost. My last gloves were Alpinestars SP1s and the IXS gloves feature considerably nicer construction as well as fit.
Sounds like you will have happy hands.

Held from MM.... they were kinda pricey but I went down at the track and you can't even tell. And I know that hand hands were slidding on the pavement. I grounded the paint off of the rivots on the palms that is about it....
I would recommend them highly..they are also the most comfortable gloves I've had...
...there is a thread somewhere about them..
Probably more than a few threads about them actually.
I have never used their race gloves (with full carbon knuckles, etc), but I had a pair of the Held "Steve", and they were the best damn gloves I have every owned, bar none (owned 6 diff brands of MC gloves so far). Most comfortable glove you will ever find. I bought them because I had researched their race gloves which are reputedly also the best made. Everyone I know who has had a pair swears that once you buy one pair of Held gloves you will never buy any other brand (unless you are like me and find out that your gloves are when you go to pick up your new bike, and have to buy an el cheapo pair at the local moto shop)
Head over to MM to find the size you will need in their gloves, try a few on... I bet you either walk out with a pair or head right over to kneedraggers to order one!
Cheers,
Chris
But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
Well, it looks like I will be shopping for Held gloves then.Originally posted by hohum

Are the prices a bit cheaper @ MM? I don't want to pay sales tax on them if they are the same price as they are in NH. I noticed that Seacoast Sport Cycle (Aprilia) carries the Held brand, and there's no sales tax. I need them for Saturday, so I need to walk away with them today or tomorrow.
No not really cheaper..these gloves don't sell very cheap anywhere....you might save a couple of buck somewhere else but I dunno if ti is worth the effort.Originally posted by A996S

I got these for $199 at MM and they are $189 here...with shipping it come to $ 198.87 ..IMO I'd rather give MM the business...but that is just me

MM won't be cheaper than anybody really... They are quite pricey, but a great place to check out gear that you like... I try to buy the lower expense items from them when I can because I'd like for them to stick around, but for things like this I always order online.
If you know of someplace in NH that carries the Held line, I'd check em out there, I guarantee their price is lower than MM or the same and you'll skip the sales tax. Be prepared to spend more than $200 for the full race Held gloves - also, Held has a few 'el cheapo' gloves that they put out for a few years that you can find for less than $100, but they certainly aren't anything I'd want to race with. Ideally you'd want the Held Galaxy Racing Gloves or the Held Akira Racing Gloves.

Chris

hahahahaha sorry Randy guess I was half asleep when posting last night...lol then again maybe I do have a few extra fingers lol
Yah enjoy...
I have a pair of Teknic gloves with kangaroo palms... they feel so great on the controls.

Wait till you have fully broken them in man, you think they feel great now, when they fully form to your hands you'll really know what it means to fit like a glove. EnjoyOriginally posted by A996S
Thanks for the help guys. I went over to Seacoast Sport Cycle in Derry NH and picked up a pair of Held Galaxy gloves. They are amazing. I never thought kangaroo leather would be so comfortable. My hands will be very happy with me now.

Chris

lol it's funny when I was looking at the gloves I had no idea how to gauge a good glove etc.. I had the Akira's in my hand and was thinking how the hell is this going to stand up to anything. Meaning the K-skin palms etc... lol Then the guy was like k-skin its the most abrasion blah blah..those are the best gloves you can get... I though the was giving me a line to try and get me to buy them....Originally posted by A996S
