Canada has been taking a few of the T7s around to different dealers so folks could sit on them and get in a preorder ONLY IN CANADA (boo). So I packed my stuff and made the 1.5 hour drive up to Montreal so I could go sit on it for myself. The particular bike I sat on had a few factory Yamaha accessories which included bar risers, solo seat, rear rack, top box, bigger skid plate, chain guard, sprocket shark fin, and Center stand.
Overall I'm impressed, I can't wait to get one for myself. Especially since Yamaha USA just announced the $9,999 MSRP.

That look hot....
I like the options on it!
$10k is a solid price that thing
Granted I am more of a honda reliability kind of guy, but you can find couple year old ATs for about 8k these days. I'd probably take one of those over this.
I do like this, so maybe in a few years well find these for cheap too. Kind of like the super tens that they can't sell.
I wouldn’t mind sitting on the new Tracer 700

It’s like an updated more svelte version of the FZ6 I owned for 6 years.
Which way to the $8k Africa twins?!?
Advrider, although some are out west...

There was one in NC that went for 7300...
I'm digging that white and red one. I have ridden the Duke 790 and found the engine to be more a rev monster than that heavier flywheel feel of a big single. I'm not sure if the 790ADV-R has that same manic delivery. I hear the T7 is much more of a predictable power delivery that makes flat tracking slides a heck of a lot easier to do with just your right hand. That's the type of bike I prefer over the KTM's traction control dialed down Rally mode.
I may have to buy both and decide which I prefer.![]()

Basic
There’s nothing manic about the 790’s power curve.
It doesn’t even wake up the same way the previous lc8 did at that magic rpm. It does a little, but Not in the same way at all.

Maybe I made the mistake of riding my 110ci Lowrider over before jumping on the demo Duke 790. It felt down on torque. Chip did you buy a 790R?

Sho nuff.
I’ve not ridden the duke though, to compare the difference in the two mills though.

Tired of waiting for the T7 to come in I put a deposit on a 790 ADV R back in November. Local dealer told me they were getting in 5 for the year and that they were all coming in during this winter. Not having a winter bike for those occasional must ride days and not having a dirty bike I decided to put a deposit on the 790R. The bike came in a week before Christmas. I told them I would buy it after the first so not to get dicked around by Mass excise tax or a reg that needed to be renewed in a few days. So on Jan 2nd I got it. My first ride was to the grocery store in mid 40 temps. The bike pulls HARD and wheelies like it should. In street or even in offroad power delivery mode the bike has plenty of low end. In Rally mode it makes the throttle feel like a 1/4 turn race throttle. NUTS!
I took it out to find some minor off road to test it out and ended up doing power line trails that I did on my EXC. Impressed! The thing really is balanced on the hard stuff. It's a bit tall for me just like an EXC but I managed to clean sections by knowing I had no alternative. It was a goat going up hills on the stock tires. Lots of ice below the thaw meant it would slip easily but I didn't get stuck. I even took it on some single track that would make me pucker on my EXC. I just went for it and the bike took it. It likes big hits and big speed. It's not the slow plod along bike.
I met with a guy in Putnam with the same bike on Saturday and we did everything from dirt woods roads long forgot to back road routes that drained my tank. We ended up in Lyme on the CT river. The bike was all day comfortable. I'm loving the thing. Glad I bought it.
I'll more than likely be cancelling my T7 order....

Jealous. I'm absolutely in love with my 1290SA, but my eyes keep wandering to the 790R...

Still counting myself as fortunate to not have seen a 790R in person yet.
There’s one sitting on the floor in Plymouth.

it's not that top-heavy.
