Just wondering if you have found anything strange within the filter media?
It seems on most motorcycle forums I visit (3) folks are more apt to bring up types of oil used then discuss the importance of the filter and what it traps every 3000 miles etc.
I have only ever had a bit of reddish gasket maker trapped in a filter but that was when I rebuilt my 1984 XL 2-fity.
filters from the break-in period will be loaded with a lot of metal particles.
this is to be expected.
personally i change the filter often, early in the life of an engine.. like 3 or 4 times by the 500 miles mark, twice in the first hundred miles..
cellulose filters (like 98% of the filters on the market) have too irregular of a pore size for my liking, so i favor filters with synthetic fiber filter media, like the Purolator Pure One filter, which is according to the tests i've seen, one of the top 3 on the market.
Get out while you can
Find your own path
Not in the oil filter, but in the oil screen, I found what appeared to be remnants of a nest (small leaves, twigs, etc). I don't want to know whose nest it was or exactly where it was that the debris ended up as part of the oil path.
I've also found bits of metal in the same screen, but I assumed that was related to the broken rocker arm.
I have not had a "prize" in the filter or screen in a while.
I hope my luck continues.![]()
