Yes sir, safety is a huge part of it.

All those things that are controlled on the track aren't even close to being so on the street. Never know when you are going to come around a corner to someone backing out of a driveway or an animal coming out of the woods. Riding at or just over the speed limits gives us a better chance to avoid those surprises on the street. It took me a long time to be able to slow down and smell the roses so to speak when riding on the street. Now I get my speed fix in the woods and on the track and my street bike pretty much sits in the garage other than the 2-3 days a year I feel like going out and taking a leisurely ride through the country.

You'll figure out the right thing for you to do, your an intelligent person and you'll do what is right for you. Just the fact that you asked the question shows that.

Having owned a CBR250R, it'll get out of a corner just fine.

That little 250R lets you beat on it like you're qualifying for a GP on a factory bike but at the same time you're quiet and not breaking any speed limits. At most, people will hear you laughing like a maniac over the almost silent exhaust, it's stupid fun.
Riiiiight. Limits are so low you can be way over on almost anything with ease. And they still look like super-sports to every LEO or jackass in a rattle-can'ed honda that pulls up next to you at a light. Some have the self control to not leave that light WFO. Some of us don't.

I was there too. My last was a Bandit 1200. I know, not the 150+HP fire breathing monsters ya'll have. But it lofted the front with ease and went faster than I ever want to go on two wheels. I downgraded to the V-Strom 650. Many look at my cross eyed when I admit that. But I think you understand.

    Easier on rear tires too.

And chipper has a point re: the inconspicuous bit.

Extra bonus points for making something that looks slow go fast at the track. We all know you'd have no problems with that smutster.

A naked 250-300 looks like the balls. Have they brought the 390 Duke here yet? Probably almost as fast as that RC390, but doesn't look it. Not quite begging to do retardedly illegal things like a sumo.

    Get a Tote goat

My sister in law has a Suzy TU250.

Fun little shitter to bomb around on. Go to the store. Be on two wheels in general...

Or just go without for a few years. I did when I was about your age...

Now I ride a missile on the street and rarely go above 65.

I just switched from an R6 to a hyper in hopes of being able to have more fun at backroads speed rather highway speed. It is definitely more fun, but in reality you are still going to be at least 15+ over the speed limit in most places before the fun starts. The "usable" power in the low part of the rev range is really fantastic instead of having to be screaming 8K+ rpms.

A: looks inconspicuous to law enforcement
B: can be ridden all day
C: can haul all my work crap around

So, what you need is some sort of adv, touring, or sport touring (but ugly) motorcycle and a track weapon.
    Exactly right in my opinion.

I find it easy to ride within the limits on the street since spending more time at the track.

kids... (I did the exact same thing). For me, it's as bad as not being able to behave with an inline 4 on the street anymore.

My pick would be buell xb or the new yamaha triple.

Ducati 900ss. Sure as hell not as fast as the liter bikes but it puts a smile on your face every time you take it out. And it's great on the track!

I don't think you are being fair to yourself to conclude that no streetbike will allow you to ride within reason, just because you can't do it on an R1...

Maybe an older touring bike/something heavier with less ground clearance and a riding position that makes you feel foolish hanging off? (Although even though I have quite a few bikes right now, I still get in plenty of trouble on my road king)

The answer is right in front of your face... Turn in the plate, keep the R1 for trackdays, and come ride MX more often. Win-win

    Re: What is Self Control?

Self control comes later in life after losing your license a couple times and have no way of getting to work. You start to realize riding sanely on the street is more fun than bumming a ride from your buddy for 30 days to get to work. Then when your insurance bills come and one months bill now costs as much as your whole 6 month premium used to.

    Ask me how I know...

Fark the auto trans, you can still burp the clutch on the regular version, putting all those 43 ponies to the ground, while getting a silent 70mpg.
Or throw on a two bros slipon and the 270 crank almost even sounds like a real bike.

Seriously, if somebody like bmw or Ducati or ktm made a quality bike built on this ideology, I'd buy it in a second.
I've looked at the nc, and it's too weenie for even me .

And if I get something that lame I honestly don't know if id want to ride. The r1 makes me shake with excitement before every time I mount it.

And the bike you are riding is, what, about the fourth fastest straight line bike ever?

Old touring bikes, not as tempting (or even possible) to wick it from speed limit to a buck-fifty in five seconds
