having an issue with the track bike i picked up last year, Went to pull the plugs to check for issues and they are not the standard ngk plugs. They are currently ngk r0045j-10. My question is, why the different plugs. Trying to figure out if there could be an issue if i go to throw in the plugs that are recommended for the 01 gsxr 600.
any thoughts?

Probably the wrong heat range which would foul the plug.get the righy one.then see how she runs.
New air filter too wont hurts
Do you know the history of the bike in terms of engine mods?
its got all the yosh internals as far as engine components. The plugs that were in it are the model listed above and brand new air filter(stock) besides the internals its got a full yosh exhaust. From what i gathered the bike had sat for a season or so, thinking maybe gummed up injectors?

is there anywhere NE local that does this? I know of a few places online that do it.

Im going to pull them out on friday since i have the day off and see how gunked up the screens are... crossing my fingers that this is whats causing the issue and not something else

Even though it's not highly likely considering it's FI we're talking about, I'm curious how a potential fuel blockage results in fouled plugs.
As far as injector cleaning, I've gone with Pro Flow Technologies and had good results. Turnaround at the time was a week.

I suppose it COULD lead to an unburied fuel issue due to lack of atomization, but I'm with bergs on this. Fouling plugs could be bad or maladjusted valves, blocked air filter or incorrect plugs or bad FI map. Was a power commander removed?Originally Posted by butcher bergs
We could dyno it at adrenaline and check the a/f ratio and remap the PC.
Would be nice to have a pic of these plugs.
My thoughts on this are that the plugs have completed their service life and what we are diagnosing is nothing more than a set of spark plugs that no longer burn fuel efficiently which results is carbon buildup and/ or fouled plugs.
ill get some snapshots one night this week when i have some time to tear into the bike again

Didnt get a chance to take a photo but the plugs were wet and blackish, everything wiped off fine, caused by to much fuel?
I have a PC3 that i just got for the bike. Might try throwing the stock air filter/full yosh exhaust map on it and see if it yields
better results.
Any other ideas?

Based on what, Jim? "wet and blackish" could be oil for all we know.
Gotta see these plugs. They tell the entire story.
if the new plugs turn right away, then he'll know it's not a plug or tuning issue.
you're right that the color makes a difference, but swapping the plugs and a fresh PC3 tune is probably the first thing to start with.
Once I get back from getting all my stuff finally switched to nh I'll try firing it up, hoping for the best.

Put the yosh exhaust with stock air filter map on the pc3 and adjusted the idle to suzuki's recommended idle and the bike is as happy as can be, let it warm up and took it for a quick ride around the neighborhood, going to run some sea foam through it once im at the track in may to clean all the good stuff out and with any luck have no issues with it.
