I just got around to watching the first Superbike race at Barber this morning.
What the heck is up with Spies and Mladin being SOOO far out ahead of everyone else.
Yamaha, Honda, and Kawasaki all have factory efforts this year right?
I stopped watching AMA Superbike 2 seasons ago. Got sick of The Mladin Show re-runs.
snorefest. Matt's definitely the guy who knows how to get it done.
I think it's because they (Suzuki) have been developing traction control illegally for years. I don't know why they suck so bad in WSBK though... I guess they pour more dollars into AMA for marketing reasons.
Because their traction control is much more complex than the other teams in world superbike.
Suzuki's traction control works by comparing rear wheel speed to crank speed and gear selection and running the data through the CPU to regulate mixture and spark.
The other SBK teams compare front and rear wheel speed. Much simpler, BUT...... Next year, the rules will not allow more than 1 wheel to be monitored for speed. This means that Suzuki has legal traction control already perfected for next year and the other teams do not.
Traction control is such a huge part of the equation now, that I wouldn't mind betting that Suzuki jump to the top of the pack next year in SBK.
derek
But it's not traction control, it's "power control."![]()
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill
Spies, Mladin, same difference.
In both races they were less then a 2nd apart.
The first race last weekend they were 26 seconds ahead of Duhamel in 3rd.
The second race Miguel was only able to improve to 10 seconds back.
I did hear Spies and Mladin tested at least 3x as much as anyone else between Daytona and Barber though, including a test day at Barber.
