In short: FML.
The long version:
I have a BikeBarn. Looks like this:
It works awesome. I've had it through one winter, and through various weather conditions. Protects my bike like a champ.
Well, on Saturday, I was doing some work on the car, and I needed a few tools that weren't in my car, but I knew were in the bike tool kit. I open the BikeBarn (BB) and grab the tool kit, and left the BB open.
It was windy... well, at one point, a strong gust of wind blew into the open BB, lifting enough to put the bike on it's right side.
The BB was next to me and the car. I got hit w/ the BB and noticed the bike was on it's side. The BB also hit the car (just a few buffable scuffs to the car). The bike didn't fair as well ... or maybe it did. No broken hard parts... the worse of it is the tank, and the fairings are buggered (broken, scratched).
I'm an idiot. If I had closed the BB, this wouldn't have happened... but then again, Monday Morning Quarterback means all those stupid decisions we made on the weekend could have been prevented.
The tank is gouged and the fairing on the left side got attacked the metal supports of the BB:
It also sliced the LH handgrip:
This annoys me the most, because I just can't fill/fix and repaint:
It actually faired quite well, you can't see the damage, but it's scratched. No broken hard parts (lever, brake pedal, etc.), but the crank case is SLIGHTLY scratched.
The bar end on the RH grip is slightly buggered, but not bad.
I have a few options now:
- Leave it
- Fix it myself
- Get aftermarket fairings (Anyone have luck with NiceCycle.com?)
- Get it fixed and repainted (I would do a color change to a pearlescent white & powdercoat the wheels gold).
*sigh*
I didn't really look at the bike after that. I was annoyed (plus I had to finish the stuff in my car before it got dark/started to rain). I was planning to take a spin on the bike, but this annoyed me, so I didn't.
As I look at the photos now, the damage could have been far worse... but it's still annoying. Grrr. The first two options are probably the most feasible... I can just fix the grips for now (cheap)... and try to touch up the scratches with filler, paint, and patience.
I know Peach Pit has done a few bikes on here... I wonder how $ that is... I've always wanted a white bike with gold wheels...
Or maybe I'm looking for an excuse to through this kit on and the wheels blue with a white stripe...
Ha.

Winston Churchill
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!
Haha. I would have been royally pissed.
With this I was like, "Ah ****."
Picked it up.
"**** you, you stupid ****."
Continued to work on car.
Looked at bike again.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I'll ride you later."
Haha... I look at the damage today and it isn't TOO bad... I'll probably figure out the tank first, since I think some of the gouges are down to metal.

Nail polish.
Damn! Ouch! etc.
I worry that the black locust tree in the back yard is gonna fall on my garage and crush everything inside![]()
And don't believe everything you think.
Red nail polish. Comes in zillions of flavors. (not that I spend most evenings lying on the couch applying it....)

what holds down the BB when the bike isnt in it?
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

I should say, I still like the BB, it was my stupidity that caused this damage.
The BB has protected my bike in a variety of conditions and is a great product for those w/o a garage, and want more protection than just a cover.

do they make one for 2 bikes? i guess i could just click the link you posted.
i could use one of those here on the water. maybe my chain will last longer than 1 season.
