Slice in tire, would you ride it?

Damned road riding . . . after I got home from a 100 mile jaunt w/ the family, I did a once-over while I put some chain lube on and noticed a small slice in my rear tire. It doesn't to through the tire. Would you ride on it? Here are some pics:

Re: Silce in tire, would you ride it?

Tough call. I'd keep a hawk eye on the tire pressure, and take some of the tire plug goop and cover the shit out of it.

Ride it out for the rest of the season. looks like it would need to be changed for next year anyways. no need to blow the dough on it for this season.

This tire only has 500 miles on it (230 of them on the track, that's why it's shredded all the way out to the edge.)

That doesn't look as deep as the thread depth, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Slice in tire, would you ride it?

This rear tire is jinxed. I discovered a 2" nail in it today on the tread, about 3/4" from the edge.

Looks like it's going up for the winter, because I simply don't feel like dealing with it right now.

Edit: i saved your post for you Dave LOL!

Thank you Dave...i probably should of of added a disclaimer to that.

    Let me rephrase my statement

I personally have ridden on many plugs and never had a problem

....cords showing on the other hand...i had a good friend die last year while riding the Snake cause the center of his tire was worn (his arguement was he was riding on the sides most of the time) it was heartbraking

If you are in doubt you should replace it...i on the other hand am comfortable riding the street on a plugged tire

Re: Slice in tire, would you ride it?

I wouldn't worry about the cut at all. Doesn't look that deep. For the nail...plug it with a simple tire repair kit from autozone. It'll be good for the street. I don't know if I'd trust the plug for the track.

    Plug it and ride it.

Go get the black sticky noodle type in the kit for 5.99 and keep the rest in your tank bag for emergencies.
