word of caution
southern sections of Route 153 are getting resurfaced this year, not the standard 1" overlay, rather a coat of chip n seal

153 as in from the Irving gas station at Rt. 16 all the way up to Rt. 25 in Effingham? That road is nice, but too many cracks to really enjoy it thoroughly. Hopefully the chip and seal crap will wear in pretty well and not make anyone dump.

i swear they changed the formula for that stuff in the last few years. i went over a bunch of "tar snakes " in a long sweeper yesterday that had me slip sliding around like it was just straight up oil. it was one of those big huge sweepers that you could take at 90 if it was on a race track. i was going through it at 40 still practically straight up and down and i could feel my tires slide every time i crossed a seam. i don't ever remember them being that slippery. it was insane. i could easily see how a new rider could crash there without even exceding the speed limit.![]()

I had my first experience with a tar snake up in NH off exit 9 on 89N. I was going down the offramp and scared the crap out of myself when I went over one. I really was like hitting a little spot of oil. Big time pucker moment.
Needless to say I was watchful for them the rest of the day.
my father hit a set of tar snakes while running the local twisties back in 05... the resulting highside sent him head first into an on coming SUV. he walked away with minor injurys thanks to his gear. too bad the bike slid under the SUV, burst into flames and melted itself, the SUV and a near by tree into the pavement.
moral of the story.... tar snakes = doom
even better when you hit one and your rider freaks out because the bike jumps, skips or slides.
