Angry Sometimes, you just cannot avoid it.

Looks like I'll be out of things for a while, and possibly shopping for a new bike.

Standard commute to work - traffic stopped at a stop sign, filtering out as the traffic on the other road permitted.
Car in front of me goes - I roll up to stop sign line to take my turn - BANG.
The car behind me floors the gas and gets all intimate with my rear tire.

Not one of my better commutes. Bike is currently at Greater Boston Motorsports - certainly a tweaked subframe at the least, possibly worse. Mashed left hand side guards/cylinder head cover, panniers+mounts destroyed, etc

    Pissed.

(gear did is job, helmet didn't even touch down, came up mad as hell. Only complaint is a minor ankle tweak). Pics when I get them off my blackberry

Damn, that sucks. Fucking idiot drivers... if someone did that to me I'd find it very difficult to resist the urge to pound the living shit out of them.

    Glad you're okay!

And, hm - not too straight...

Thanks folks - yes, the urge to go nuts was pretty damn strong, so just waved the guy off when he came over to help until I'd calmed down a bit. Handily the guy behind him got out, and I asked him to dial the cops etc while I went and sat down for a bit

Or maybe the bike isn't so easy to fix???

Maybe a test ride on the new Multi is in order?

Maybe you'll become someone else I hate...at least until Sept/Oct...

Glad you're OK Giles. Bikes are replaceable. I still think it shouldn't be illegal to shoot morons.

Get that pig measured at GMD or someplace similar. Don't want to chance having the frame tweaked.

Re: Sometimes, you just cannot avoid it.

I got rear ended back in November by a guy that was too busy checking out the local college chicks to notice me stopped in front of him. Thankfully it was just a (very solid) tap, though there was an ambulance passing at that exact moment and the EMTs jumped into action, which was actually quite terrifying. In a bit of karma he got rear ended, and thankfully I was unhurt, and he paid for the bike to be inspected. You got really lucky, glad you are alright! Time to get the bike fully checked out, hopefully it's fixable because it's a great looking machine.

Wow, glad you're okay . . . the adrenaline must have been at PCP levels, so kudos to you for cooling down before talking to him. We wouldn't have blamed you if you kicked his ass, but wise that you didn't.

Re: Sometimes, you just cannot avoid it.

    Sorry to hear that, sucks.

Do make sure if they climbed on your tire that you get the crown bearing and all that jazz in the drive re-spec'd at your local shop of choice. Looking at ADV it seems once that stuff gets jacked a bit, bigger issues can unfold down the road.

Good luck in the repairs…and if you end up needing a wheel straightened, I would just push for a new one or plan on sending it to Woody's for a couple weeks.
