..you've got stock turn signals.
first off, by no means am i bad mouthing Greater Boston Motorsports, because they are not at fault. this was also my first experience with them.
i took some extra time today on my lunchbreak and shot over to GBM in Arlington to get my bike inspected. The previous owner of my bike had installed flushmounts which are perfectly visable, imho. anyways, the guy at GBM (i think his name is Marco), told me that Arlington cops are tight wads about aftermarket turn signals, and WILL ticket you. reason GBM doesn't want to get involved is that obviously they don't want to catch shit for it.
so Marco told me it wouldn't be a problem if i took my bike for inspection at their everett store.. apparently cops in that town have more important things to do like keep crime rates down and what not.
if anything, i hope i'm at least saving someone the trip.
good to know... i'm also hooliganing it w/ an expired inspection... shhhh
actually, i might do that tomorrow morning

Inspection Sticker, Is that the thing they give you when you show the guy at the local shop your registration and give them 15 bucks? You mean they are actually supposed to inspect your bike?![]()
hey, believe me.. i wouldn't so concerned if i didn't already get stopped this week for it. (see john baker thread)![]()
how is it that the dealer get involve if they don't care about after market turn signal? ie. let's say you have the stock signal and you got the sticker then you go home and install the aftermarket. is it the dealers fault? is the fuckin Arlington cop hiding around the corner to see if anyone rides out with the new sticker?

"fuckit!"
i hear you, at least that's what marco made it sound like. i really have no idea what the GBM rep is among the Arlington PD.
What they are worried about is the cop watching and pulling the person over right after issue of sticker before any changes can be made. If you were to pull out of a sticker station with an altered exhaust (after market) turn signals, etc., and a cop wanted to be a real hard ass. He could nail both you and the person who issued the sticker.
I got pulled over by a state trooper once when bringing Double"D"s bike in for a sticker. Asked why no sticker and told him I was bringing it in for one. When I got there I told my mechanic what happened and he gave the bike a very close inspection and gave me the sticker. When I talked to the mechanic I found out that this trooper had a hard on for illegal stickers and was trying to bag people for them. I pulled out and when a block away the trooper was waiting for me and wanted to see the sticker. Every thing was good so I had no problem.

You want to bitch start sending letters to Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha to start putting integrated good looking turn signals on more of the race replica bikes.
The larger bikes in each companies lineup come stock with integrated signals that are both decent looking, visible, and legal... there is no real good reason not to do it on the CBR/GSX-R/whatever when it is so obvious owners want them.
Part of the problem with that is the wonderful DOT.Originally posted by benVFR

The 04 ZX-10R comes through with STOCK flush mount directionals in Europe, but the DOT mandates that they have to be a certian size and so far apart. Size was not a problem with there Euro flush mounts just the distance apart. So it's the wonderful government trying to justify there jobs by keeping us safe.![]()

if the signals have the dot certification in the plastic they should pass as long as they are in the stock location. i wonder if this was seen as a chance to sell new oem signals?
i did mc inspections in rhode island in 2003 mostly it's a good thing for riders that don't, won't or can't check their rides condition. i know some shop owners look at inspection time as the time to sell new tires, brake pads etc....
oh, my first post!
just came back from their sister store, parkway cycles, in everett. passed inspection with no hassles.![]()
and i'm just about to jump on the bikey & head there
good news is, i KNOW i won't get hassled for my integrated rears... i just found the stock connectors for the rear blinkers in the wiring RATS nest the original owner calls an integrator kit and plugged em in... now the tail lights AND the blinkers blink. only thing they'll be able to hassle me about is the flushmounts up front.

I just got a rejection over at Riverside in Somerville for not having a chain guard / tire hugger. Never had a problem with it the last three years. I had to find one on ebay and install it and go back. pain in the a...
I guess the cops are getting hard ass on the dealers to be more vigilant about the rules.
Ive always had good luck at the shell station in peabody Rte 1 south, at the lake street exit.....
when I got my bike inspected this weekend some guy tried to tell me that clear tailights werent passable. I asked him to walk into the showroom and look at the Yamaha Warrior and tell me if it had a clear one.
Bottom line, I passed
i'm sure that these public postings about good and bad inspection stations are a good way for the state to crack down on the "good" ones.
these are the massachusetts state regulations for motorcycle inspection:

it might be a good idea to reference them before making that mod to your street bike in mass....
sure your bike might pass inspection this year, but that doesn't guarantee that it will next year. personally i'd prefer to make legal mods so i don't have to deal with the hassle.![]()
no hassle here so far. any one got BS about no plate light? better yet anyone still got plate light?
"fuckit!"
I go to the place gsxrjack referred to, the place isnt too strict, i have had good luck with them.
Bump909- im from winthrop also.
I put my plate on my exhaust pipe, i ran a light to it, and i got no problems with my sticker, you definatley want a light on your plate, just another thing that a strict cop can pull you over for. I wouldnt dare go to like revere beach without a plate light lol.

Wow that is some BS there.. I doubt anyone has ever inspected a bike to the letter of the law in MA. It would take a couple of hours and $200 labor if they actually checked all that.Originally posted by taylor
