    Stealing from a dying rider

Bad enough, but this one done by a LEO.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut state trooper has pleaded guilty to charges he stole cash and jewelry from a dying accident victim.

The Connecticut Post reports 45-year-old Aaron Huntsman entered a guilty plea Wednesday to charges of larceny and tampering with evidence under the Alford Doctrine. That means he does not agree with the state's case, but concedes there is enough evidence to secure his conviction.

Prosecutors say Huntsman, a 19-year veteran of the state police, was caught on video from his cruiser's dashboard camera stealing a gold chain and $3,700 from 49-year-old John Scalesse as the motorcyclist lay dying on on Sept. 22, 2012.

Scalesse was fatally injured when his motorcycle crashed on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield.

Huntsman faces 18 months in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 3.

Potential 18 months. Who wants to bet he gets a slap on the wrist in the end?

What difference does that make? Even if it was illicit money somehow, that doesn't in any way justify the cop's actions.

He may be implying that the plot might be more sinister, the cop might have had an inkling about the amount of cash?

Imagine a mindset that thinks that it's OK to steal from a accident victim. That is a scary dude and he is in law enforcement. Very disturbing on so many levels.

I love when a judge looks at you and says, "he's an officer of the law and his testimony is more credible than yours."

I should print this article and take it with me for when the traffic judge drops that little gem.

In the interest of finding something good about this... ..this thread seems unlikely to need to be moved to 'controversial'.

    Yeah, this is pretty disgusting.

You're right, it doesn't matter. But we have somewhat of an answer anyway:
"Scalesse had spent Friday, Sept. 21, with friends. They met for lunch at a restaurant in Woodbridge and rode their motorcycles to a festival in lower Manhattan. Scalesse peeled bills from a large bundle of cash throughout the day, a friend told police. They had dinner together, then drinks, and headed back to Connecticut around 10:30 p.m., the warrant states. (...) Scalesse['s Father] told Huntsman that his son always carried $2,000 to $4,000 cash and asked if it had been recovered."

This article also contains more info about the sequence of events, including how it was discovered that Huntsman had taken the chain, but didn't know anything about any money. Until it was found in his police car.

This article features a video with photos of the officer, the victim, and a comment from the chief. It also points out that in 2011, he made $111k. Seems like enough of a salary not to have to steal a couple grand from a dead guy...

Be interesting to know how many other troopers are driving at high speeds, handing out tickets to less "skilled" drivers while working under the influence of pain meds. If it were you or me we'd get the riot act and jail. Lying scumbags one and all.

One and all. Just like sport bike riders are all hooligans. Not defending this guys actions but there are individuals in every group.
