One cop, one rider, 2 dead, 15 hurt.
Bronrott: Crotch Rockets Are 'Potential Death Machines'
Sensationalistic journalism? Yup.
Bad move on the cop's part? Sure.
But still, keep this in mind this next time you go speeding down the highway. These things do happen & there's a reason why most people look down upon sportbikes. Ride safe, ride smart.

I can see why they are upset towards sportbike riders but ban them?? Same thing can happen in a car, in the end car or motorcycle it's all about the operaters right foot/hand.
I mean i doubt any state would ever pass a law like that, but even considering it just show's how many people are quick to blame something without completely thinking it through.

I don't need to keep it in mind, when I see the blues I pull over.. We are well on our way to bring back communism..![]()
What happened was terrible but you cannot really hold the rider responsible as much as the officer involved. Officers should weigh the risks and benefits of their behavior before attempting to stop a felony evader. i.e Chase a biker doing 80 in a housing community trying to flee or call off the chase...Sometimes letting an evader go is the safest thing to do.
I think there were mistakes on both ends of the spectrum. More than likely an over zealous cop caused the pileup. I am not for outrunning the law, I pull over as soon as I can. Funny how the felony thing wasnt mentioned yesterday when I read it here.
2 dead 15 injured. Motorcyclist at fault. - Speedzilla Motorcycle Message Forums

The rider ran from the cops after doing something illegal. Cop trys to stop him and hurts others....bikers fault for running. Alhough i agree with sometimes letting an evader go is safest, it doesnt change the fact that if the bike had simply pulled over, none of that would have happened. How the rider can live with himself is beyond me.
yeah all the bikers fault. i don't run from cops and this guy should have stopped BUT
"It started at about 7 p.m. when a Prince George's County police officer spotted a speeding motorcycle and positioned himself to stop it on the inner loop, police said. The motorcycle rider swerved in front of a civilian car and sped away, causing the officer's car to hit the civilian's."
kinda think the officer should be taking some of the blame. if the bike made contact with the cruiser it might give reason for the car to loose control, if the cruiser made contact with the bike he would have been down and out. and what if the bike did stop? the cop would have only hit him and it would be ok? maybe the guy on the bike got scared because he seen the cruiser coming at him like it was and made evasive manuvering to not get killed

erm, like, fucking HOW exactly?
Bullshit. Another over-eager, glory hunting, adrenaline rushing cop kills several citizens. End of story. They are looking for a scapegoat.
The motorcyclist was wrong, but the cop killed those people through lack of skill/judgement. It happened a coupls of days ago in Allentown, PA too. Cop ran into a small boy and severed him in two while mom and dad had to watch.
Radios and roadblocks are what are needed, NOT chases on the PG county roads during rush-hour.

Damn ROCKET BIKES![]()
stiffer punishiments are only going to increase the "runners". cops should just know when to say when
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Great, thanks to retards like this, laws will eventually pass and ruin it for others. People like this I'd personally love to punch in the face.
The first I read of this was on CNN.com yesterday and the report said the cop lost control while trying to "cut off" the fleeing motorcyclist.
How do you do that with a cruiser and not kill the rider?
Interesting I have not seen that language in any of the later reports.
Rider is an idiot, but it's on the cops back for causing a wreck.
That's a sad on so many levels.
Horrible story and the biker is guilty of speeding and not stopping, but the cop holds responsibility for the rest in my opinion.
God forbid he radio ahead and have someone else pull this guy over. He makes some crazy move to try and catch him and causes a pile up.
The cops are not admitting it was a pursuit. I wish the dash cam got out so we can see for ourselves what happened.

So very true. Sure the motorcycle was speeding and didn't pull over. He broke those laws. The officer is to blame for the deaths. He shouldn't have tried to swerve into or in front of the bike regardless. That would be considered murder. Vehicular Manslaughter. It was a horrible judgement call by the officer. Radio ahead. There is a reason some stated have regulations about chasing motorcycles. Things like this have happened alot in the past and will only continue to happen until cops stop trying to be glory hounds and radio for backup.
If this was a car, we should ban all cars and make everyone use public transportation. There we go.
EX's, a Vulcan, and a KLX pitbike. Honestly, I'm not Kawi loyal. Planning on a DR soonish and an SV eventually someday.
Rediculous, people dead and injured because the cop didn't do his job. Speeding is dangerous, and his ego was obviously more dangerous and cost innocent people their lives. I hope the families take action against the officers and department.
Banning sportbikes on public streets? Good luck. Once they pass that I'm going to run for office in NH so that I can ban all blue cars. Maybe after that I'll ban yellow shirts.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
HEY HEY HEY!!! Now that's goin just a little too far, Jay!!! .......... my Tony's Track Day shirt is yellow!

Yes, i think that we should ban those Prius things. They're so ugly that I feel the need to look at them twice, which is very dangerous while I'm driving. Which is the same reason for which good looking girls should have to wear burkhas (sp?) if walking near a roadway.
The news report makes me sick.
The news station sensationalized the story by going out interview pure troublemaking losers. Standing on the tank and sliding with both feet on the ground, I would want to stay away from them too.
And then they generalized sportsbike as potential death machines in the wrong hands, anything (even a glass of water) is potential death machines in the wrong hands.

Interestingly enough the Post changed the language. Now it appears that the cops was less at fault. Fricken spin doctors...
FROM:
The motorcycle rider swerved in front of a civilian car and sped away, causing the officer's car to hit the civilian's.
TO:
The accident was set in motion about 7 p.m. when a Prince George's police cruiser chasing the motorcycle on the outer loop near the Ritchie Marlboro Road exit slammed into a vehicle after the motorcycle cut in front of the car, police said.
