Ride to live, live to ride
I have been looking hard at a new bike, and it has been a toss up between the D675 and the S3R. After the BoMo weekend, I am leaning heavily towards the D675. I could never see myself not riding on the street, but I can, however, see myself riding less and less once I get on the track, not to mention the ergonomics of the D675 may be a bit less appealing on the street.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
1. 2-3 years track, 5 years dirt
2. Back in Boston my commute was so short it wasnt worth taking the bike. Here in Florida, depending on the commute when I find a job Ill try to take the bike, but when they say its too hot to ride here, they aint kidding.
3. I would ride now. Closest dirt spot I have is a MX track 2-2.5 hours away. Of course, theres a sumo track 1/5 hour away but I left my sumo at home. And Homestead is like 15 minutes away, but I cant afford track days, let alone racing now.
Ok, I don't do track or dirt, but even if I did I could say based on other past experiences I could never drop street for the following reason: I have a real issue with any sort of riding where you have to pack up your bike and take it somewhere else to go do it. It just seems too detached.
It just seems too disconnected to me. When I used to mountain bike I was fine with throwing on the knobbies and rolling over to the Fellsway and hauling my exhausted, beat-up, broken ass back home. It was just a big long mixed-mode adventure. But tossing the bike in a van with a bunch of friends and driving for an hour to do something similar just seemed pointless.
For me, motorcycling/bicycling is part of my identity/lifestyle. For others perhaps it is more a sport/hobby and, well... fine for them. It is riding on the street and incorporating it directly into your life that makes that difference.

For you maybe. I have no problem saying that being a racer made motorcycling an even bigger part of my identity. If I never rode street again, it wouldn't change that. Disconnected? Again, the connection I had with my racebikes was the strongest yet. I knew how those bikes reacted to shit going beserk at the limits. I feel disconnected to a streetbike because I will never know those things about it.
That said, I wall likely ride street in some fashion for the rest of my days. I love it as a way to get around.

lately, I've been just using the street bike to go pose at Newbury. I do still want to street ride, and won't be one of those "track only" people. Been riding for 4 years now, a my mileage has been steadily decreasing each year. Not because street riding is dangerous, but because I've been losing interest in riding all together.
