A cool post on one of the better MotoGP news/blog put together a little youtube video comparison between Kawi's "normal" Gp big bang engine and the new screamer configuration they are currently testing using a recently released clip from Kawasaki. Worth checking out.
Video Footage Of Kawasaki's New Screamer
Wow! That sounds insane. Everyone's getting in on this new technology - Was it Yamaha that you posted last time? For better traction control or was that something completely different?![]()
Duct tape is like "The Force". It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
kawi was the last GP team running a screamer motor before switching to a big bang. nice to see they are redeveloping a new screamer.
Sounds like a damn F1 car! So sick!
I'm still perplexed as to how this is all done.
Obviously there is a plethora of electronics hard at work but even outside of that, what are the differences in the hardware? Crank positioning? Cam duration? All? None?
I have to do some reading about these motors...
if it were just a sound clip, i would swear its Formula cars

its in the timing...
Some Yamaha tech posted a big paper explaining their
move away from screamer as they found that
as the revs went up the "noise" from all the internal
friction and inertia would cause the rider to loose feel of
the power. They found that with the big bang the feel became more
important despite the fact that it inherently creates a bit less power
at the top end than the screamer version.
Screamer has even intervals for spark around the
360 degrees, like every 90 degrees.
The big bang has them either closer together or as simultaneous combustion,
like 1 and 3 then 2 and 4.
The physics of the big bang seems to cut through the
"noise" so the rider can feel the throttle response better.
All interesting stuff but my hunch is that the Kawi will still
be mid pack. The best sounding bike may not be the fastest.

More electronic control = less need for feedback to rider. WFO and hang on!

That's not a screamer... THIS is a screamer:
