and become part of the stats.
Increase reported in drunk driving crashes involving motorcycles - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe
that is disappointing news.... I never mix the two, ever.
probably add this guy too.
Accident
With 4 DWI's on his record, probably a safe bet he was trashed on the bike. Witness said he fell off once, got back on. Then he lost it in a corner.
Fun with statistics! How many MORE registrations for motorcycles were there!? A lot more! We can make anything look like we want them to with statistics!
But yah, Ive seen enough people just bombed trying to ride, I got far away from them quickly.
Exactly. High gas prices= more motorcycles= more motorcycle deaths, drunk or not.
It's faulty stats. What's the percentage increase based on the number of registered bikes? That would be more telling.

MOst nights if you ride past alot of bars in my area you will see lots of bikes . They do not call them bar hoppers for nothing. Mostly the cruiser v twin bunch lacks common sense when it comes to this subject.

so what, you're saying if the number of motorcyclists killed increased from 14 one year to 23 the next, there were REALLY only 4 more motorcyclists killed that year, not 9 more like the data shows?
The point I'm trying to make is that the stats aren't talking in terms of "crashes per capita"... they're talking about crashes, period... so it's not that their stats are faulty, it's that your perceptions/expectations of what they should be telling us are faulty.
The stats show that accidents/deaths rose... it's not talking about accident/death RATES.

The problem is that, like Bert said, insurance rates will rise and this information can be used in a negative light when the cause that is implied is not driving the effect. It's bad Journalism. There is no mention in the huge spike in motorcycle ownership. So people will assume that bikers are just getting shit canned and wrecking bikes like hot cakes and now have another reason to bitch and moan about us.

Shit... I crashed without drinking....And was told by some friends if I was hammered I wouldn't have hurt myself like I did.. I have never drank while out on the bike, even when I bar hopped with some other bikers, I had soda or water. I'd rather crash sober then die drunk..
It wasn't me I didn't do it (unless you have the negatives to prove it)
This is similar to back in the day when Progressive insurance was refusing to give the 10% ins discount required by NYS law for taking the BRC. They said it increased crashes. They said the number of people that took the course and crashed was up alarmingly. The fact is that their number of clients was up by 100s of %s and the percentage was actually signifigantly lower.
Ultimately they realized that they could make a big money off riders so they now play nice and dropped their rates bigtime. Great company to deal with for my car. Never had them for the bikes though.
I agree though that % is BS. It still represents dead and/or drinking riders.
I can't even fathom drinking and riding.
