So last thursday was Thanksgiving morning and I wake up bright and early at 6 am and get ready to head down to my parents' place in Kingston, MA. After packing up and getting ready I head out about 7am. I put my stuff in my car and then go to pull out of the parking lot of my apartment building but before I get to the exit I notice my neighbor's bike on its side still covered up. So I quickly look to my left where my bike is parked and sure enough; bike is on its side as well.
I immediately hop out of my car and check on the bike. It is still covered so I can't see too much but all I smell is gas fumes. I call the police and they come over within 10 minutes. He helps me pick it up and does a police report. Unfortunately he says there is nothing he can do and even though this was his area to patrol he didn't come around the apartment building over night.
Great, no witnesses and now I am left with a broken brake pedal, cracked lower fairing, and a scratched handlebar end. The bike only has 1400 miles on it and I just got it in May. The bike still looked brand new until now.
It turns out that two other bikes in the parking lot were also pushed over that night as well and one of them was a Harley that sustained $2000 in damages. Luckily my damages are no where near that and should cost me under $500. Dedectible is $500 so insurance doesn't help at all.
It just pisses me off how some people think its funny to ruin someone else's $9000 machine. I paid for this on my own and is the first thing I bought when I graduated college.
I put the bike away and I will have to wait for spring to fix the damages.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I had to get it out. Has this happened to anyone else here, particularly the Salem, NH area? Is there anything I can do about this?

well that fuckin sucks. Sorry bro.
You could always buy one of those cheap 80-90 dollar alarm systems w/ the tilt sensor... of course it probably won't save your bike, but if you buy two & install em on the bikes that park on either side of you it might![]()

That does suck. Sorry it happened. People can be really shitty.
Two days ago I woke up to find someone had thrown two boulders at my girlfriend's pathfinder totally breaking the rear window and side windows. Repair estimate is at 1200 bucks.
is wrong with people these days????!!!
Dude, someone pushed over my old 600 because I apparently parked in a parking space that was the topic of much dispute between neighbors (townhouse community). I stood outside screaming "come on out pussy" for like 20 minutes before a cop showed up. You should check your airbox just to make sure nothing crept up in there and maybe fucked up your filter.
Sorry bro, this blows. Some people should be shot...maybe tased a few times if they're just kids.
I'm a fan of the token asshole who dings my car/truck door when they throw theirs open. Then it becomes a challenge to see how easily one can carve their favorite profanity into the offender's paint.
Pay the money (if you can) and put the thing in a storage place for the winter if you're not going to ride it. It will at least give you piece of mind.
Bike is already put away. It kills me because I was planning on putting it away this week anyway. one more week and I wouldn't have had to deal with this!
The building's maintenance guy had asked me to not take up the "prime" spots close to the doors because people had complained about bikes taking up all the close spots so I had moved it further away from my building (making it alot easier for someone to get away with knocking the bike over)
From now on I am doing everything I can to park my bike right outside my window so at least I will be able to hear something if someone does decide to do this again.

Get a written estimate including labor for the damages, you might be suprised how high it is compared to what you think it is. If damage estimate is $1100 then you fix it yourself for $500 then you save your deductible, take pictures after / or have appraised to prove fixed and save receipts for insurance purposes.

I had that happen to me years ago with my first bike, went out to go for a ride and it was a scrapped up. Somebody found it and picked it up for me, but no witnesses to anything. It looks as if they tried to steal it, because there were drag marks from the tires and the body work on the ground.
When I called the cops they took their time, and the asshat that got there didn't believe me. He took the full report and kinda yeah right, sure... then when he actually went over to check the damage he could see the scrape marks on the pavement and realized I wasn't trying to pull a fast one. too late he was already on my Shit list. Tried making small talk with me, and I just replied back in the same manner, Yeah Sure, uh huh... and walked away.
I'm with - kmobrien76. Definately have a shop give you an estimate! They will include labor which will bring the estimate up and maybe add things to increase it. Maybe something you may have missed! Then do the repairs yourself. this is the route I took and did not have to pay the deductible after all said and done!

What an asshat! Prime spots, eh? YOU live there along with everybody else, and have the right to park in any spot of your choosing. Are they assigned? Not, right? As a result of Officer Maintenance, you wind up parking away from the building, exposing it to vandalism even more. Why are these people complaining? Bikes taking up all the "good" spots? They dont own those spaces. Too F'n bad! I feel sorry for you and the others who had their bikes tipped. Probably by the same like-minded punk fuckers who knock over headstones. What I wouldnt give to catch one of them...
something similar happened to rob last summer. came out in the morning to his bike on its side, fender broken and tire tracks leading right up tot he front of the bike. No serious damage, just some scratches, but it tainted our view of our neighbors...

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
Friend of mine had his bike dragged about 10 feet, uphill, in gear, with the steering locked. You could see the scrape the kickstand left in the pavement. His neighbor across the street decided he didn't want the bike parked right in front of his house and figured he'd just go ahead and move it. Absolutley no damage to the bike, so the cops said they couldn't do anything except tell the guy he shouldn't do that again.
