I headed out this morning for a loop around Lake Champlain. 300 miles or so with T***** road 100 or so miles in. As I pull into the small pull off area at the beginning of the 8 mile long, 83 corner road I see three sportbikes. One guy has on a helmet, jeans, gloves, and a riding jacket the other two are in shorts & t-shirts. The conversation goes like this:
Me to guy with some gear: "How are the corners?"
Guy in shorts: "I'm faster than you old man!"
Me to said d-bag: "Uh, Ok"
Guy with some gear:" Two corners on this side have some rocks in the line and one corner on the other side is pretty dirty."
d-bag: "So with the leathers and knee pucks you must think yer a racer er something, right gramps?"
Me: "Nope"
d-bag: I'll give you $20. if you can beat me to the other end!!"
Me: "Ooooohhhhhh! $20........
So said d-bag now waits for me to leave and dives out in front of me so we can "race". I ignore him and ride at my own pace, nearly rear-ending him in 6-7 corners as his trailbraking skills are somewhat lacking....... About one third of the way from the other end I find him in the road on his side bleeding after locking up the back brake and low siding. I stop and ask him for my $20. He says no way since I didn't beat him to the other end yet.
Seemed reasonable so I left.![]()

Saw an accident aftermath on taconic parkway on the new York side today. Ambulances and police already there. I just shook my head and kept going. The guy was sitting up and looked ok but he didn't appear to have had any gear on and his bike it appears went over the guardrail and down a steep hill!!!!
Should have told you made it there and back already, and did it without sliding into a ditch.
I wonder if he was part of the elite crew that does T****** at midnite @ 150mph.
I've seen the tards flying over that road with no gear. If I were you, instead of asking for the $20 I'da said "hey numbnuts...take a wild friggin guess why I'm in gear now". I'd love to hear the story he told all his puberty buddies though. I bet it involves a deer.
Didn't beat him to the other end *yet*...was he going to pick the bike up and continue on? He's a friggin trooper if that was the case.
You seem to find the winners...I remember your story about being at Wilkins to get an inspection and having some douche ask about the leather and a salesman tell him you think it makes you faster or something and said douche dropped a harley in the parking lot minutes later.

A fine story. Most excellent.
My thing is I would hate like hell to get a ticket in the straights. A ticket hanging it out in a nice sweeper I'd call a 'riding tax' and move on, maybe frame. A ticket going wicked fast in a straight line and I'd feel like I wasted the opportunity on something any ass hat can do.
Did I miss something? This didn't happen on a group ride. It sounded like he was out riding on his own.![]()

I swung through T Rd yesterday, and thankfully there were no asshats present. And the road is overall in great shape now that all the dust of winter/spring has been washed off. They did a terrific job repairing it post-Irene. Although that fucking turtle is still there.
And I agree with nhbubba, there's no point flogging it on the straights. T Rd is best ridden at a reasonably constant speed -- it does get patrolled by the police fairly frequently, so the best policy is to stick somewhere close to the speed limit on the straights, and don't slow down for the corners. Or even accelerate through them and then slow down for the straights.
Jake, sorry to hear that you're cursed with attracting the dumbasses. You'd think that some of these asshats would realize that a 40-something guy on a sportbike has probably been riding for a long time, and has probably learned a few things over the course of those years.....

Hmmm, a story that some here doubt, that took place on a "secret" road that isn't to be discussed. I can see why there is some confusion here.
You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style
Doucheness is a constant. A really not-so-secret road attracts just as many ass hats as any other fun road. It's generally not talked about publicly to cut down on the number of said douches. I don't doubt the veracity of Jake's story. If I'm wrong, like I said, doucheness is a constant.![]()
