I completely agree with you when you say that you must go after what you want. No degree will get you anywhere but in the door, your perseverance and hard work will allow you to climb the ladder.

I am a Sr. Software Engineer for the web and have been working with programming since I was 17. I have worked on websites like babyphat, phat farm, Rocawear, orange county choppers, nokia's Ovi Store, etc. I am always asked what did you major in when you went to college. If only you could see their faces when I say I did not attend college, rather I hit the books myself and worked my ass off for everything I have and for where I have gotten today career-wise.

It's about the hiring manager seeing dedication, interest and a spark that will charge you. It's not so much about your degree. Now had my parents allowed me on a bike when I was younger or I grew up around them hell i'd probably be racing today!
