Re: What temp do you start riding at ?

well i used mine as a way for transportation to work, so i'd ride up to low 40's. now that i got a more reliable car, i'll probably be riding much less. like 50-80 degrees under 30% chance of rain.

i understand both sides of riding in nice weather only, or riding whenever. personally, i've got nothing to prove with riding in poor weather conditions. and i'm not addicted to riding on 2 wheels, as many of you claim to be.

I don't even understand how it can be enjoyable to ride in the rain. That fucking sucks.

your the one making contradictory posts

you only ride on the track (where a helmet is required) yet your purpose in riding is wind in the face

riding is rain only sucks when you don't have proper gear

riding in cold only sucks when you don't have proper gear

just admit it, yer a woosey fair weather rider

ad btw, there are more dumb motorcycle riders on the track than there are drivers on most of the roads I ride

For the same reason I don't constantly ride the same roads: it's nice to have a change of scenery.

Leaning the bike over in turns is fun, but so is seeing the world on a motorcycle. I've been to some pretty amazing places on my bike. If I could only ride around a few-mile track, I'd go nuts.

With the right gear it's not bad. In fact, it can be pleasant in its own way. What's not so nice is when the rain goes on for hours. But sometimes you just have to deal with it -- when touring, for example.

More of a condition of the road problem in my eyes. That and I don't intend on spending a ton of money on gear that allows me to ride in conditions that I don't think are fun.

my thoughts exactly, limiting your riding to the track is no different than the NASCAR oval

after 3 loops around the same 12 turns, everything is pretty much the same

one of the things I like about winter riding is the free horsepower you get

Ummmmmm...yeah.....the track thing in my post was a joke and a slight against some track riders on NESR who don't ride on the street anymore since they became track junkies, claiming it's unsafe.

Sorry I didn't make it more clear for you Randy

BTW...I've never stepped foot on a track and don't intend to. To me it's a waste of money...I'd rather lose my money in the stock market

    Randy pretty much explained it.

Riding in the rain isn't bad at all so long as you have the gear which prevents you from become wet and miserable.

I find rain riding to be generally quite enjoyable. Coming over a mtn ridge and seeing all the clouds and inclement weather swirling around you. It goes along with the riding mantra that you're not riding through it, you are a part of it.

Cold riding is a bit different. To be able to beat the cold into submission and just enjoy the fact that you're able to get out there when no one else has found a way to enjoy it like you have makes it that much more pleasurable. I speak only for myself though.

Dirty riding is a good way to ride in the cold and stay warmer (cuz your moving around alot more), keep some skills fresh and beat the winter blues.

I wait till the temp gauge hits 150 degrees or I risk cold seize. I keep blipping the throttle because I have no idle circuits. My garage mates wonder why us two strokers blip the throttle and thats why. Two strokes need to warm up first. Very risky to ride em cold.
I do not think that was the intent of the question though. Even though it is a correct answer.

The salt will wash off my bike no problem.
