It's been 7 years, time for new boots

Currently using some Joe Rocket all weather boots. Bought them circa 2002. Still waterproof to this day, which I love.

Just went to put one on for my ride home from work and discovered that my zipper is starting to open up on one of them. No big deal, but I was looking to upgrade this season anyways.

I use these for ALL my street and dual-sport riding.

I'd like another set that is waterproof, but I would also like some additional armor/protection since these have the equivalent of high-top sneakers (not even pumps).

    Waterproof

    Full height

Easy to get on and off

Some decent tread on the bottom

    Armor

I don't mind stiff if it provides real ankle protection.

    Any recommendations?

Price isn't that much of a concern since I managed a $10 a year value on these bad boys.

I have read good recomendations on the Tourmaster Solution Boot. I think Butcher Bergs has them or had them too.

i have a next to new pair of Alpinestar smxr's all black size 10...worn about 5 times. 150.

they are probably the most comfortable riding boots i've ever worn....feel like wearing a pair of flat bottom soccer shoes, but better!

Big fan of the Oxtar, now TCX, Infinity. Not cheap, but very good boots

Since you're looking for a crossover street/dual-sport boot, I highly recommend the Sidi Discovery. Waterproof, super comfortable, durable.

If you're looking for more ankle armor, Sidi's got a new DS boot coming out called the Adventure.

Re: It's been 7 years, time for new boots

Those new Sidi DS boots look like what I'm looking for. I'll just have to try them out to see if they can be used for normal street riding and commuting as well. My concern with MX style boots is the weight and lack of dexterity.

    Thanks!

Re: It's been 7 years, time for new boots

if you can find a pair, i love my older style Alpinestars Effex Gore-Tex boots. not too hot in summer, super comfy, excellent peg feel, durable, good height, etc. i've had them for years and they still look great, just washed a bunch of mud off from motard runs and leather looks new again.

i'm not a fan of the styling for the newer version but that's only my opinion. i think they still get good reviews.

here's a pic of the version i have, some sites still offer them...

    What Sheppo said.

I've had the same pair of Solution Road Boots for 5-or-so years. Been thru hell and back.....pulling wrecked bikes from ravines, race crashes, plenty of day-long rain rides, torrential down pours, even used 'em to go snowmobiling......the list goes on. Going for another pair this winter.

Re: It's been 7 years, time for new boots

So with all this recent dirty (aka awesome) riding you're doing, can you swing 2 pairs of boots?

I may very well be making this up, but I figure the MX boot has limited dexterity for a reason (more stiff = more protection?)

The street boots (might?) have less of a ski-boot feel because more dexterity is required, and comfort is preferred

    comfy, dexterity for street/commute

beefy, raw, tough boots for dirt...and they are usually filthy after rides and need more maintenance

    swingable?

I already have a set of MX boots I use for the woods/MX riding.

Go for the Sidi Discovery then. Super comfortable all day long, including walking around in them. I wear mine to work when the weather's really wet because they keep my feet dry while my Goretex-lined Matterhorn combat boots (my usual commuting footwear) start to leak after a mile or two in the rain.
