Lookin to take an overnighter up to Canada leaving Sunday morning, coming home Monday evening.
Ya know, if the weather is decent.
Looking for recommendations on places to stay (cheap and guy-related, I'm takin two friends, not sexy-time with the wife), places to eat for dinner, places to grab a drink/good time.
Also lookin for recommendations on routes to get there. We'll be starting out in North Central MA/SouthWest NH. Would like to enjoy the ride as we'll be on bikes. Rt.100, etc would be good.
Pointers?
No, I have never been to Can-id-er.

I do have my passport.
Probably going to stay away from large plates of Poutine due to the lack of restroom in my riding pants. Small plate ok....
Have no set destination for Canada, just looking to go away for a night on the bikes.

What part of Canada? Quebec! or New Brunswick? If your heading up to Quebec, Sherbrooke is a good destination and of course Montreal. It should take you about 4-5 hours from Western NH. Remember Passports are now required to cross the US/Canadian border. Now if you are heading up to New Brunswick, Coastal route up to Calais, Me / St Stephen, NB.. is a beautiful ride. A great southern New Brunswick Destination is St Andrews, with equally beautiful coastline. I grew up in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, so I'm a little more familiar with the Maritime provinces.

A really cool way in is through the top of NH. It's called the great north woods or something. I remember a stretch of curves that has water on both sides. Very trippy an cool feeling ripping on that road.
As stated, the highways in Canada suck. It's like a suspension testing machine with sharp edge bumps spaced evenly and often. If you get near montreal, it's like any american city with hotels and such.
Fun trip for sure.
when you plannin this trip Clay?

I lived 6 years in Sherbrooke...boring. Montreal is nice. Or Quebec city, the old part. Something tells me Clay wants to do some riding tho...have you ever crossed the borders thru Jackman in Maine, Clay? There is an awsome, beautiful road going to the Quebec borders there, you'd end up near St-Georges (in Beauce region). St-Georges as a nice nightlife downtown. 1 hour further is Quebec city.![]()

I've never been to Canada. That includes never crossing the borders through Jackman Maine.
I'm planning this trip for either this upcoming Sunday/Monday or the following weekend, whichever as decent weather first.

It would really help to know where in Canada you want to go. It's a big country.
The riding in southern Quebec is fairly dull, but there are some nice roads to be had between Thetford Mines and Quebec City. Avoid everything between Vermont/upstate NY and Montreal. Boring and flat.
There's outstanding riding north of the St Lawrence, but that's too far to be an overnight trip. Same with the Gaspé peninsula.
In my opinion Canada's not worth an overnight trip -- you won't be able to go far enough to really get much out of it. All the great riding in Canada is a significant distance away from the US border. You'd be better off doing an overnight trip to the Adirondacks and saving Canada for when you can spend at least three or four days and get up to Gaspé or the Saguenay region. Or if you really want to treat yourself, take Rt 138 up to Baie Comeau and Rt 389 up to Manic 5. Miles of twisties, little traffic, incredible countryside.

Not set on Canada specifically, just figured it may be a good destination for a day ride since we don't have to come back that night.
Will consider anywhere with some good roads in between here and there, good food/drinks when we arrive and a cheap hotel.

Check this thread for discussion of routes in northern NH and Northeast Kingdom of VT:

VT 102 is super-scenic and takes you to Canada. The crossing is at Canaan VT I think, VT 114.
My insurance agent recommends carrying a letter on your insurance company/agent letterhead with evidence of insurance.
Did anyone say don't forget your passport?

And don't believe everything you think.
If you take Rt 201 at all, like coming back at Jackman Crossing or going up that way, watch out for diesel fuel spilled in corners

when you get back we should take my camera and your truck out to ashburnham and get some video so we can make some cash.
nine times out of ten its an electric razor, but...every once in a while...its a dildo. of course its company policy never to imply ownership in the event of a dildo, we have to use the indefinite article "a" dildo ...and not..."your"...dildo...
I already made some cash, your brother sent in video of me and him. Just waiting for my cut
I think the program is over now.
